Leonard Cohen

AGE: 83 • Rumson

Leonard Cohen, 83, of Rumson, died Saturday at home.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 62 years Joan F. Cohen (nee Crosby), three sons, Todd Cohen and his wife, Lynda of Farmingdale, David Cohen of Red Bank, Glenn Cohen of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Born and raised in Hoboken, Mr. Cohen lived in Lakewood for many years until moving to Rumson in 1988. Mr. Cohen served as a Second Lieutenant in the Army after completing Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was a real estate broker and land developer in New Jersey. His career started with the formation of Oakwood Realty. Soon thereafter, he was a founding member of Building & Land Technology, a publicly traded real estate development company. He later formed Cohen Schatz Associates where he continued to work with the largest real estate developers in New Jersey. He was Commissioner of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority under Governor Jim Florio. His favorite thing to do was to travel the world with his beloved wife, Joan.

Chapel services are Monday 11:00 am at the Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, 2130 Highway 35 Ocean Township.
