MORRIS J. "DINNY" HURWITZ
AGE: 80 FORMERLY OF FAIR HAVEN
Morris J. "Dinny" Hurwitz, 80, of Geneva, Switzerland, died there on Sunday, March 29, 2009. Mr. Hurwitz was born in Boston and raised in Fair Haven. Mr. Hurwitz graduated from Rumson High School and then Rutgers University in 1950 with a BA in Business Administration, plus Dean's List Honors. In 1950, Mr. Hurwitz was appointed administrator for the Marshall Plan in Paris until 1953 followed by service as first lieutenant, U.S. Army in Heidelberg, Germany from 1953 through 1956. Mr. Hurwitz returned to New York City in 1957 starting as buyer then rose to merchandise manager for Macy's New York. In 1970, Mr. Hurwitz relocated to Geneva, Switzerland. He was appointed Ready-To-Wear Manager for Grand Passage then later became store manager for Innovation, two leading Swiss department stores. He retired in 2001 as managing director of Farfalor Diffusion, a jewelry firm in Lausanne. Mr. Hurwitz is highly regarded as a lifelong serious endurance athlete. He concentrated on long-distance running in New Jersey and New York followed by numerous marathons in Europe. In his later years, he took up road biking and was well-known around Geneva for his athletic accomplishments.
Surviving are his wife of 13 years, Monique Baeriswyl of Geneva; a brother, David of Boise, Idaho; and a sister, Wilma Hurwitz of Montclair.
