Vaughn Rhoades Obituary
AGE: 88 • Berkeley Twsp., NJ
Vaughn L. Rhoades, 88, of Silver Ridge Park North section of Berkeley Twp., NJ died on Tuesday November 14, 2017 at his home. Vaughn was born in Topsfield, ME, he then entered the Navy after high school. He got married and moved 37 times before moving back again to Toms River in 1976 then retiring in 1986 and moving to Berkeley Twp He proudly served his country as Sr. Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy for 22 years during WWII and the Korean War on aircraft carriers USS Saratoga and Essex. Vaughn then worked as a logistics management specialist for 23 years Lakehurst Naval Base. He was a member of the DAV Disabled American Veterans Assoc, VFW, USO, Wounded Warriors, American Legion and the FRA Fleet Reserve Assoc,
Vaughn is predeceased by his parents Ora and Bessie Rhoades; his step father Herman Sawyer, his wife Joyce Rhoades and his children Paula Bewley, Terry and Peter Rhoades.
Surviving are his daughter Denise Rhoades, brother in law Herbert Mitchell, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, many great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
The Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals 145 St. Catherine Blvd. Toms River, NJ is in charge of the arrangements. Committal will be private. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Vaughn's name to Wounded Warriors support.woundedwarriorproject.org. Vaughn's last wish was for everyone: "when you see a Veteran, thank him or her for their service to our great country". Condolences may be sent by visiting www.ryanfuneralhome.com.
