Ruth Byg Obituary
Sioux Falls - Ruth Byg, 95, of rural Sioux Falls passed away Monday, October 29, 2018 at Good Samaritan Luther Manor.
Graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at West Nidaros Lutheran Cemetery, rural Crooks. Memorial service will begin at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at West Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Crooks. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Monday, November 5, 2018 at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic.
Ruth Leona was born April 7, 1923 in Sioux Falls to parents Johannes and Clara (Schjodt) Orstad. She married Melvin Byg November 29, 1942. They lived and farmed in the Hartford area, where she was a very active farm wife.
Ruth was an active member of West Nidaros Lutheran Church.
Grateful for having shared her life are her four children, Rosemary (Gilbert) Mohrhauser, Hartford; Jerald (Alta) Byg, Ames, Iowa; Elizabeth (Alan) Van Liere, Litchfield, Minnesota; and Evelyn (John) Holdaway, Rapid City; fourteen grandchildren, and twenty-two great-grandchildren, and her wonderful neighbors, Stephan and Janet Helgaas and Clare and Caroline Vollan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Melvin, brothers, Orville Orstad and Maurice Myrmoe, and a grandson-in-law, Shawn Schwaller.
The family would like to thank Good Samaritan Luther Manor and Avera Hospice for their wonderful care of Ruth.
