Stanley Hansen
Sioux Falls, formerly of Madison, SD - Stanley Hansen, 98, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 31, 2018 with family by his side at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. 
Memorial service will be 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 4th at St. John's Lutheran Church, Madison with Rev. Elizabeth Pagnotta officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Lake Park Cemetery, rural Wentworth with military honors provided by the Madison VFW & Madison American Legion. Arrangements are entrusted with Weiland Funeral Chapel. Stanley George Hansen, son of George T. Hansen and Nora (Stinerson) Hansen, was born in Clermont, Iowa on November 13, 1919. He was a young boy when the family moved to the rural Lake County family farm, east of Madison, where he lived most of his life. He attended Eastern Normal School in Madison and graduated from Eastern High School in May 1938. 
Stanley joined the Army National Guard in December 1938 in Madison, SD as a member of Company A 109th Engineer Combat Battalion, 34th Infantry Division. He proudly served during World War II from December 1941 until his honorable discharge in June 1945 reaching the rank of First Sergeant. His areas of service included England, Scotland, and North Ireland before his unit was part of the invasions of North Africa and Italy. He remained in the Army National Guard for many years following his tour of active duty.
Stanley returned home to the family farm which he worked for many years. He managed the Cherry Lanes Bowling Center in Madison for 6 years and later worked as a custodial supervisor for 16 years at Dakota State University before retirement. Stanley was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Isaak Walton League, Elks and St. John's Lutheran Church. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, and fishing over the years and watching sports on television in his later years.
Stanley married Dorothy Rhoden in November 1941. They had two children, a daughter and a son. He married JoAnn (Seitz) Foley in August 1963. They had one daughter. 
Left to honor his memory are his two daughters, Sheila (Tom) Reding and Kim (Chuck) Stroud both of Sioux Falls; one son, Alan Hansen of Marshall, MN; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Gloria (Jim) McCain of Howard SD; many nieces, nephews and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert & Raymond: two sisters, Mable & Adeline and his wife, JoAnn.
