Tony Olshove Obituary

Tony Olshove

Tony Joseph Olshove passed away peacefully in his home early Friday morning after a heroic battle with brain cancer. Surrounded by his family, "Tone" showed the same strength in his final hours as he had throughout life - and the wit and dry sense of humor we loved; he left us the day after Thanksgiving (aka the biggest shopping day of the year), indicating once again how much he truly disliked shopping.

Tony was a man of few words - some of them colorful, all of them important and cherished. We'd like to invite friends and family to celebrate his life and to share their stories and memories of Tony. The family will greet friends from 5:30-7:30 pm Thursday, December 5 at the Westward Ho Country Club, with a celebration of his life and a sharing time at 7:00 pm. The evening will conclude with a outdoor fireworks tribute to Tony.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you honor Tony by helping a neighbor, friend or family member shovel a sidewalk, run an errand, or cook a meal. Tony's family received many of these kindnesses during his illness and would like everyone to "Pay it Forward" on his behalf.

Tony is survived by his wife, Lana, and children, Brittany Olshove and Eric (Jennie Smith) Hooker, and grandchildren Maddy and Trenton. He is also survived by his mother Dorothy Douthit (Craig) Keating; father Gerald (Lena) Olshove; sisters Deborah and Chere; and brothers Matt and Tim.

Tony left us while holding the hands of his loving wife Lana and daughter Brittany Elizabeth at their home in Hartford, SD.

Tony was one of my best friends growing up on the north end. His love of life and finding ways around things is something I truly cherish about our friendship.

Lana and Brit,

We are so sorry for your loss. Tony was a great man. I love how fussy he was with your yard and things always looking just so. He took great care of those things but his greatest joy was in loving and taking care of the women he loved.
He will be greatly missed. I am sorry I can't make it on Thursday and hear the many memories that will be shared.

Blessings to you - comfort in the memories - and God's peace to you as you travel through these next days!

Love,

Scott, Gena, and Tom Tarrell

I am so sorry for your loss. I remember Tony as the young, caring teenager who took our son Nick under his wing and made Camp Teepeetonka endurable and even fun. What a great neighbor he was. May you find comfort in knowing what a fine young man he was. My heart goes out to you.
