William "Bill" Simpson

Sioux Falls - William "Bill" Simpson passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2021 in Sioux Falls, SD. He will be lovingly remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who took great joy in his family.

Bill was born on August 14, 1935, in Sioux Falls, SD to Robert and Lillian (Borgendale) Simpson. He attended the Sioux Falls Public Schools, graduated from Washington High School. Following high school, he attended Augustana College (Sioux Falls, SD) and George Williams College (Chicago, IL) completing a Masters of Science with a focus on the foundational principals of the YMCA. He worked within the YMCA organization for 26 years as a YMCA director in Peoria, IL; St. Louis, MO, and Worthington, MN. Following his 26 years with the YMCA, Bill was the Business Manager for First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls for 10 years.

On November 25, 1955, Bill was united in marriage with Beverly Ruud in Hills, MN. They celebrated 65 years of marriage and life with their two children. Bill was a member of First Lutheran Church; Augustana Booster Club; and Elmwood Golf Course. Bill and his wife, Beverly, enjoyed golfing together and in leagues within Sioux Falls. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and participating in activities outdoors. As a former high school and college athlete, Bill enjoyed watching sports and other activities that his grandchildren participated in.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Beverly; daughter, Valerie Peters (Dennis), Sioux Falls, SD; son, Steven (Jamie) Simpson, Tea, SD; 10 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, April 23, 2021 at First Lutheran Church, 327 S. Dakota Ave. Visitation with family present will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Ave., Sioux Falls, SD. Due to the covid concerns, masks and social distancing are required.
