Sue Crook Obituary
Comfort Sue H Crook died peacefully in her sleep in the early morning of January 5 in Comfort,Texas, her daughter close by.
Sue was born on June 5,1934, in Lancaster Ohio. She met David Crook after high school and they married in 1934. They lived briefly in Georgia, while David was in the army, on to Granville Ohio while he finished his degree, and then to Cambridge MA, as he continued his studies at Harvard. They began their family as he was starting his teaching career which allowed Sue to take on the job of mother with all her passion. Two daughters were born in Cambridge (Anna and Sara) and a third born in New Brunswick ((Molly) after they left the United States for a decade in Canada. Life in New Brunswick was followed with a move to Halifax, Nova Scotia, when David began teaching at Dalhousie University.
Sue was a great mother, wife, and helpmate throughout. Her passions were gardening, cooking, reading, knitting, eating good food, enjoying good wine and music. Whenever possible she cultivated a productive vegetable garden which would be transformed in her kitchen. She was a huge fan of Julia Child. Cookbooks perused in bulk, favorite recipe pages stained.
A move to Vermont in 1974 brought struggle and heartbreak with David dying in 1980. This, along with a desire to be closer to extended family prompted her return to Ohio. She moved to Athens, finding there's landscape similar to what she loved from her time in New England.
In Athens, she worked at Stewart McDonald MFG, where she rose to the position of general manager, helping the company grow to what it is today.
Sue was an active volunteer in the Herb Guild and Project Plant, sorted books with the friends of the library, and helped new knitters in the knitting guild.
She spent her last year in Texas with her daughter enjoying the birds and beautiful view.
She leaves behind her brother, George (Bud) Hritz of Circleville Ohio. Daughters Anna, Sara, and Molly, granddaughter Emmaline, grandson Daniel and his wife Kelly, great granddaughters Ashlyn, Avery, and Ella. Niece Leigh Webb and husband Dave, great nephews Ian and Nick.
Her love of reading she passed to her daughters, we to our children, they to theirs, along with her love of cooking, baking, gardening, and knitting.
