Family-Placed Death Notice
McCRACKIN, Alec CHARLES ALEC McCRACKIN Alec McCrackin died Wednesday, August 1, 2012 while hiking with his family in the Wind River Mountains near Dubois, Wyoming. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, August 14, at 4:00 p.m. at Morningside Presbyterian Church, 1411 N. Morningside Drive, N.E. Atlanta. Charles Alexander McCrackin was born on June 18, 1946 in Seattle to Joseph Ralston and Frances (Owens) McCrackin. He grew up in Atlanta and graduated from Northside High School. He received his BA in 1968 from the University of Pennsylvania. After graduating, Alec was a teacher in Calais, Maine and then managed his family's millinery business in Forest Park, Georgia until he retired. Alec was a devoted husband and father who loved being outdoors, working with his hands, and spending time with his beloved dogs. He was formerly president of the Atlanta Rugby Football Club, treasurer of the Georgia Swimming Association. Alec loved to travel and visited more than 30 countries, most recently to South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Humenny McCrackin; son, Jordan Evan McCrackin, currently working in Dubai; daughter, Miriam Owen McCrackin, who currently works in Virginia; and brother, Mark Owens McCrackin, living in Vermont. Bobbi,
I was looking for information to find you and found this instead. I am heart broken about the news of Alec. I am so sorry I didn't get to hear about this until now.
Alec was a wonderful guy so entertaining and enthusiastic about life! He made all of those swim meets bearable. Lots and lots of laughs. We will miss him.

Bobbie, Mark and Family:
I was so sorry to hear of Alec's passing. We lived just across the street in Atlanta on Dawn View Lane when we were in high school. He and Mark were good friends of ours as were Joe and Frances. Although I had not seen Alec since Jordan was an infant, he was thoughtful enough to attend my mom's funeral in 2009 for which I will always be grateful to him. Please know you have my and my family's sympathy for the loss of this old friend and very good man.

I have not seen Alec in a few years, but we had many a lovely conversation walking our dogs together at Thompson Park. My thoughts are with the family. I remember that I met you briefly one very hot night outside Everbody's Pizza In Virginia Highlands a few years ago. Alec always spoke lovingly about you all. RIP Alec. Here's hoping you're Top Dog in heaven.

I went to Northside High School with Alec and enven though I had not seen him for many years, I will always remember his great smile and wonderful down to earth disposition!!

I met Alec back in the 60's. He and my cousin were friends and we haphazardly kept in touch. Had lots of fun during the last Pres election e-mailing back and forth. I'm so sorry for your loss as he was a great guy.
