Time helps heal the wounds of grief, but thankfully we get to keep our precious memories. I think of Betty often and wish we could have had more time together. Just very thankful for the wonderful time we had.

Always kind, a gentle spirit. Infectious, twinkling eyes. A warm wide smile. She would give away little "trinkets" to me. Wonderful sense of humor. Such people are never far from our memories we hold dear. When I got the news that she had passed, I saw her sweet face in my minds eye and she was smiling.

I'll never forget Betty and her kind and friendly smile and more. Betty was the first person to welcome my late wife and me to Virginia at Village Green in September 1972. God bless Betty and her survivors.

Dear Shipley Family,

My prayers are with you during this time of loss. I worked with Betty at Costco and I was one of the other Betty's there. She was the dearest and sweetest people I have ever met and she treated everyone she met with that wonderful smile and beautiful eyes. May God walk you all throught this difficult time. Remember that after we loose someone that our memories become Treasures that we keep in our hearts forever and she will be in my heart forever. Betty Gaskins-Hampton

Betty was a friend and SAGNU sister to my wife, Bonnie who died in 2002. Betty with three other SAGNU's came from Newport News to Morton, Illinois for Bonnie's memorial service. Their bond of friendship is stronger than family ties and I am better for the friendship I have with the SAGNU's.

Dear Shipley Family and Sagnu Sisters,

You are all in my thoughts and prayers during this time of great loss. I feel very fortunate to have known Mrs. Shipley (she'll always be Mrs. Shipley to me). I'll always remember her smile and her vivacious manner. As a youngster in Village Green, it was always a treat to get to see Mrs. Shipley in her Z car traveling with her many adorable dogs.

Today I lost my best friend. Betty was a most remarkable person. She could look at you with those stunning blue eyes and it was as though she could read your soul. She exemplefied honesty, courage, beauty, straight-forwardness, generosity and compassion. She proved for me, that commonsense was more reliable than education. She gave me the confidence to meet difficulties or the unknown with strength and poise, as I have watched her do so many times. Her laugh could not help but lift your spirits. Genuine.....I cherish every memory. To each of you, I send my deepest condolences. She will be greatly missed, but I think she'd like it more to be lovingly remembered. Today I say Goodbye to my best friend and I know, without a doubt, I am a better person having known her.
