David Buck Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

BUCK, David DAVID E. BUCK David E. Buck, 86, of Atlanta died on Sunday, March 30, 2008. He grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, and graduated in 1944 from Auburn University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He served as a Captain in the United States Army Signal Corps in the South Pacific and Japan for two and a half years during World War II. He began working for the Bell System while a student at Auburn. Having worked in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Georgia, he retired from BellSouth after 45 years of service. He was a member of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers and active in the Telephone Pioneers of America. After his retirement, Mr. Buck and his wife traveled extensively, visiting many countries around the world. He was also able to devote more time to his family and the hobbies and sports that he loved – woodworking, yard work, golf and tennis. He was particularly proud that he 'shot his age' in golf when he was 79 years old. In addition to all of these activities, he found time to work part-time at H&R Block for 15 years, until he was 80 years old. Mr. Buck was a faithful and active member of the Dunwoody Baptist Church. He served as a deacon, taught Sunday School, and chaired numerous church committees wherever he lived. Survivors are his high school sweetheart and wife of 65 years, Doris Peeples Buck; four children, Cecelia Hinton of Athens, Georgia; Judi North of Atlanta, Georgia; David Buck Jr. of Davidson, North Carolina; and Ruthie Buck and her husband, Jim Pisano, of Charlottesville, Virginia; his sister, Margaret Goodman of Pell City, Alabama; eight grandchildren, Angela Denton Rachel, Robert Denton, Sarah Buck Shackleford; Mary Buck Brewer, Zachary North, Rachel Buck, Taylor Buck Pisano and Daniel Buck Pisano; two great-grandchildren, Abigail Rachel and Dylan Rachel; and many well-loved nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Dunwoody Baptist Church at 1445 Mt. Vernon Road at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 3, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. The family requests than any memorial contributions be made to the Wesley Woods Foundation, Inc., at 1817 Clifton Rd. NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30329. Arrangements by Cremation Society of the SOUTH 770-420-5557.

I was so sadden to read of Mr. Buck's death. He shared a room with my father at Budd Terrace during their last weeks of life. I know his family and friends have many wonderful memories of him to cherish and to comfort them. My sister and I send our sincerest sympathy.

Dear Doris

I only just learned today from Al Hollis of David’s passing. I will always remember what a dedicated and considered teacher David was. Phyllis and I loved him and learned so much from him. I am mostly in Atlanta so please call me (770-396-6620) if I can help you in any way. I tried to reach you at your old telephone number but the number was out of service. Again, please call me if I can ever be of any help whatsoever.

Fondly,

Bill Loveless

Doris,
We were saddened to hear of Dave's passing. I am fortunate to have so many wonderful memories of our working together over the years.
Initially, the only thing good about being transfered to New Orleans back then was having both of you as friends to help us in that transition.
May the Lord give you peace in the days to come.
