Frances Weldon Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

Frances Eloise Sims Weldon, 84, of Atlanta died Sunday, June 18, 2006 at Portsbridge Hospice in Dunwoody after a courageous battle with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. She survived several instances of breast cancer years earlier. Born in Lone Oak, Georgia May 26, 1922 to Cassie Foulk and Johnnie L. Sims. Along with her husband, Walter Leonard, she owned, leased and managed a number of real estate properties in and around downtown Atlanta starting in 1953 with the Chestatee Inn an American Plan Hotel on Ponce de Leon Ave. They also built and renovated numerous residential properties as co-owners of Weldon Construction Co. In 1975 she began to sell real estate with Fourteen West Realty. In 1985 at an age when most would retire she began Great City Realty as part owner and Managing Broker eventually becoming sole owner. In 1989 her office merged with Coldwell Banker Morningside. Along with two of her agents she formed a business partnership, The Hudson Team, one of the top teams in Coldwell Banker in Atlanta and Internationally. She held the Georgia Realtors Institute and Certified Residential Specialist designations and for many years was a member of the Atlanta Board's Million Dollar Club. Although she was accomplished in several businesses her greatest achievements were personal. She was a member for 50 years of Quota International of Northside Atlanta, Inc., a women's service organization and was involved in their numerous charitable projects such as Childkind, abused and battered women, deaf and hard of hearing. She and Leonard were members of the Hotel-Motel Greeters International for 46 years. She became the first WOMAN President after the men and women's divisions merged. Surviving are sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth and Alfred Weldon of LaGrange; June and Harold James of Alpharetta and brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Oneida Sims, Sr. of Gray, Georgia and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Spring Hill with Dr. Harold Zwald and Mr. Timothy P. Weldon officiating. Interment will be at 3:00 P.M. (Georgia Time) at the Oakwood Cemetery in Lanett, AL. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7;00 until 9:00 P.M. at Spring Hill. Elegance personified Eloise, poise, charm, wit and strength of character made her a friend to all. Eloise was a rare gem of a person and will be missed. The world is a darker place today without her brilliant light.

My sincere sympathy to her family and loving friends.

We met Eloise during the purchase of our home through the Coldwell Banker Hudson team. She was a charismatic and regal woman, yet very much down to earth. Not many who met her will forget her.

Atlanta has lost a great Lady. She had a big impact on all who met her.

Those who lived at the Chestatee Inn never forgot that beautiful red head who stopped traffic on Ponce de Leon when she cut the grass.

My sympathy to her family and many friends.
