I met her in Washington DC in 1990 at a training course and my life changed because of it. She was a bit outrageous, outgoing, and just wonderful. She drove very fast and sometimes scared the heck out of me. She helped me get back to Atlanta at CDC, which helped me manage my ill parents in South Carolina. I just found out last night that she passed away and I cried as I continue my struggle with my own illness. I learned about her husband dying at a young age and the challenges of raising two daughters alone. Jackie was that rare person who thought of others first before herself. She was unselfish, sometimes unbridled, and always entertaining and a delight. She faced life head on, and never felt sorry for herself despite her circumstances, and was always optimistic. She was an entertainer, a force to be reckoned with, and a person of towering love. She was my heart light at work and I always wanted to hear what she had to say. She was a stalwart supporter of Atlanta and the people that live here. She loved Atlanta, Georgia, the South, and God. I loved her dearly and the world is more empty without her in it. I honor her and her parents which taught this lady how to live and love!

May the God of all comfort strengthen the family during this time of deep sorrow. Those who pass on, God keeps in his memory because they are precious in his eyes. My sincerest condolences.
