James BALDWIN Obituary


Family-Placed Death Notice

BALDWIN, James Mr. James Albert Baldwin age 83 of Atlanta, Georgia formerly of Rockmart, Georgia passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at his residence in Atlanta. Mr. Baldwin was born on January 29, 1930 in Rockmart, son of the late Clyde Albert Baldwin and the late Lucile Chatham Baldwin. He attended the local public schools and was a member of the Eagle Scout Troop 14. Mr. Baldwin was a member of the 1948 Rockmart High School North GA Championship Football Team. He was a member of the Rockmart First United Methodist Church and later became a member of the St. Bede's Episcopal Church of Atlanta. Mr. Baldwin graduated from Georgia Tech with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Engineering. Upon graduation, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army having served during the Korean War where he was awarded a purple heart and the bronze star for valor. Before retiring from the US Army he attained the rank of Colonel. His professional career was spent primarily with the Ralph M. Parsons Consulting Engineering Firm where he was a project manager for MARTA in Atlanta, Dallas Area Rapid Transit in Dallas, Texas, Bay Area Rapid Transit in San Francisco, Yanbu City in Saudi Arabia and the World Trade Center in Jakarta, Indonesia. Mr. Baldwin was a long-time member of MENSA. Mr. Baldwin is survived by his wife, Elena Baldwin of Atlanta; daughter, Mari-Elena Baldwin Van Der Linden and her husband Karel of Lexington, NC; three grandchildren, Alexander and Brandon Van Der Linden of Lexington, NC and Kareline Van Der Linden of Aruba; sister, Beverly B. Albea; brother, David Bruce Baldwin; nephew, Bruce Albea; niece, Alison Albea Reynolds; other nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Baldwin will be held on Thursday, July 18th at 11:00 a.m. in the Rockmart First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeanette Dickens officiating. Interment services will follow in the family lot of Rose Hill Cemetery with Brown-Wright American Legion Post #12 Honor Guard in charge of military graveside rites. The family will receive friends at the Rockmart First United Methodist Church on Thursday, July 18th from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
