I have Julie's picture up at work and I can look at it every day to remember her. Julie and I met when as a kid I lived in Georgia. We were about 12 years old I believe. We were the best of friends. When I moved to California, we reamained pen pals. Julie's dream was to marry Donny Osmond! That's how she would sign her letters- Mrs. Donny Osmond. She later came out to Calif for a conference and my husband and I got to spend the weekend with her and re-connect. I still can't believe that she is gone. If anyone knows how to contact her daughter, I still have all of the letters that she wrote to me when she was a teenager and I would like to pass those along to her daughter, if she is interested. Please contact me at [email protected] Debbie

Dear Brandau Family,
I first met Julie in a business communications class we were in at DeKalb College. Mrs. Rollins was the instructor in our class. I remember how Mrs. Rollins used to comment on what a good student Julie was.
Julie knew at that young age what her calling in life was - to be a court reporter. I was so impressed with her determination. She knew what she wanted and was headed firmly in that direction.
Julie left us with a gift...the gift of example. Her life revolved around doing little kindnesses for other people. Rather than putting her energy into what she could do for herself, she spent her time and efforts helping others.
I think that Julie would be happy knowing that we could take her example and pass it along to others. Julie "payed it forward" before the concept was ever put into words.
Thank you, Julie for your life and your love, which you so freely gave to everyone around you. The best tribute we could ever give you would be to carry on that love to the people around us.

My husband and I are missionaries in Kenya, East Africa and had just come back to the States in December of '07. We had heard of the courthouse incident while in Africa but had no idea that we actually had known one of the victims, your mom, Julie. Tonight while watching the news, we saw a report about the upcoming trial and then saw Julie's name and face. "I know her" I said. But she was more than just an acquaintance to me. Julie and I met when we worked together at Western Sizzlin Steakhouse on Memorial Drive. Julie, myself and another young girl named Susie, were like a mighty threesome at work. We had a blast together every night that we were schedule to work together. Because of that friendship, I asked Julie to be play an active role in my wedding shower and to serve in my wedding. She did both with a grace and charm that she alone possessed. I loved her as a special friend, but through the years of being abroad, I'd lost touch with her. It was my loss. I want to extend my deepest sympathies to Julie's daughter and family. May God be with you to be your help, comfort and strength. He is ours...and He is Julie's also.

Christina~
I got out of the shower yesterday. Being home from college i forget a lot of necessary things-- such as pajamas. I reached into my mother's drawer and aimlessly pulled on old tee shirt. Thinking nothing of it I sat down on her bed to watch TV. Suddenly she walks in and her eyes begin to water. "what is it mommy?" (cause even though your 20 you can still refer to your mother as mommy when your in the privacy of your own home :-))
"oh nothing. Its just, thats Julie's shirt."
I looked down and begin to remember the significance of the shirt. Made by Julie complete with a heart made up of purple roses. Worn to shreds with holes and stains. I remember recieving them so vividly. She made matching ones for my mom and me and i know she's probably up in heaven doing the same for her fellow angels.
I think of all the times that she comes back into my memory and how this rush of emotions happens to you every milisecond. We love you so much Christina and we love your mother. I haven't seen you in years but I remember having ballet for years with miss pam and how our mothers went all out for every costume and recital--thats just how they are. I know we aren't the friends we used to be--due to distance and different life paths, but i will always be here if you need me. Julie was such a good friend to my mom and to everyone. She so enriched everyone's lives. God Bless.

Dear Christina,
I never knew your mother, but I wanted to let you know that I thought of you last evening while watching the CNN special from the tragic events last year. I pray that God will sustain you as you face life events that you expected to encounter with her by your side. Cherish your memories and take comfort from the words of those who knew her. There are no words that can take away the sting. Blessings on you, dear.

Dear Christina: I lift you up in prayer each day, as my thoughts are constantly with you. My heart is totally broken over this tragedy. Your Mom was one of my great friends, and we spoke on the phone every day if we could not get together in person. Just remember that God makes no mistakes and that he will give you some peace and comfort if you place your heart in his hands. We don't know why this was allowed to happen, and we may never know, but God will not desert you. To Julie: I grieve for you as my earthly friend. Thanks for all the butterflies that you sent my way this year, especially all the orange ones at my home. I love you and miss you.

Dear Sweet Christina,
I know no words will ease the pain, as I have found it hard to find comfort as well. Your mom was a great lady who never failed to make me laugh out loud EVERY time I saw her, which was quite often. She drove me to tears with her humor every time I had lunch with her & the rest of Daddy's staff. I loved your mom, and she loved you so much. I, like the rest of the world, cannot find the magical words that can ease your pain, as only time can do that. All I can do is re-assure you that you are not alone in your grief. I can truly say that I know how you feel, and I am sorry for your loss. Please remember that we share a certain bond, just like our parents did, and we WILL get through this. Hang in there, kiddo. Love ya- Daddy's Girl

Dear Christina, I went to Brown College of Court Reporting with Julie, and even watched the wedding of Princess Diana and Prince Charles with her. She was such a wonderful person, and it absolutely makes me ache to think about what happened to her. I am so sorry. I am still court reporting, but this makes me think about my vulnerability in this job. I do not cover court proceedings very often, but even in depositions, this could happen. Your mother was a special person. I along with Kay Williams were very good friends of hers, and we will never forget her. We thought she was a very special person, and we are very affected by this. I cannot tell you how many times I have thought about you, and prayed about you and your family. Please know that I care and will always treasure the little time I had in your mother's life.

To Julie's Daughter:
I am so sorry for your loss.
My heart and prayers go out to you. I did not know Julie but I, too, am a court reporter and worked in court in California for 13 years and now do deposition work. I have been a court reporter for approximately 33 years total.
I lost my younger sister to lung cancer a few years ago and know she is watching over me as my guardian angel. I am sure your mom will be your guardian angel and watch over you, too.
Whenever you see a penny, nickel or dime or whatever on the ground, pick it up and think of it as a kiss from your mom. It really helps me keep going. Think of it as a penny from heaven.
Also give your dog lots of love right now because she will miss your mom, too.
Take care.

Dear Christina,
I started to read some of the entries for your mom. I read where she attended Dunaire Elementary School. My daughter attended Dunaire also. The more I read about your mom, the more I found out how much we had in common. I feel like I have lost a member of my own family. The only thing I can say to you is this. One day the sun will come out again and you will be able to laugh. When that day comes, know that your mom is in heaven laughing with you.

To the Brandau Family,
May the Lord bless you and keep you, in this time of loss; may his face shine upon you, so that everyday you know the depth of his love; may his hand keep you safe all your days on this earth.
I remember Juile from Clarkston High School so many years ago. She was one of those people who leave an indelible mark on your soul, no matter how long ago it was.
Please know the meditations of many hearts are with you during this dark time and know that there will be a time when you will be with her again for eternity, through Christ all things are possible, but also know that now, right now - today, she is with you in ways that were not possible before this tragic loss.
In every end there is a beginning.

Dearest Cousins, Trudy & Christina,
What a wonderful memory of our visit together last September at Aunt Gert's Memorial. I believe she planned it so that we would have a chance to be together before Julie was called to a better place. I am still in disbelief of the events of a week ago, hearing of it on CNN. I am so happy most of Julie's first cousins were able to travel to Atlanta for her service and to re-connect with the cousins we have not seen in a very long time, spread out to the four winds as we are. We love you and want you to know that we are as close as the phone if you need to talk. God Bless you always, especially now

I just wanted to express my deepest sympathies to the Brandau family. The Brandau's were neighbor's of mine for many years when I lived in Stone Mountain in a subdivision called Safari Woods. I will always remember Julie as a sweet person with a very kind and gracious heart. She touched the lives of many in such a positive way. Christina, you were the light of your mother's life and I feel that a verse from one of my favorite songs best expresses how she would like to be remembered by you and everyone she knew and loved....
"In my daughter's eyes I can see the future. A reflection of who I am and what will be. And though she'll grow and someday leave, maybe raise a family, when I'm gone I hope you'll see how happy she made me. For I'll be there, in my daughter's eyes."

Such a familiar face I will miss in my travels. My most Sincerest Sympathy.
