Nicole,
There is nothing I can say to explain the immeasurable blessing you´ve been to me.

Our shared passion for music was the heartbeat of our friendship and I´ll never forget the times we sang together or the ways you inspired me with your voice and encouraged me to use mine.

From the stage, to karaoke nights, to dancing in the ocean in Destin, I´ll carry you with me through every riff, run, harmony and melody I hear.

In the words of ABBA:
"Thank you for the music,
the songs I'm singing,
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing,
Who can live without it?
I ask in all honesty,
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance, what are we?
So I say thank you for the music,
For giving it to me."

Thank you, my dear friend.

- Shari

To the parents of Nicole,
Thank you for sharing such an amazing young woman with us. She has been a part of my daughter´s (Bianca) life since 2006 at Mercer University. She became my child big sister and mentor. I loved seeing them together and the bond that was obvious. It´s been a pleasure to interact with her and have her be a part of my family. Rest In Heavenly Peace Nicole and to her family you have my sincere condolences with my prayers.

RIH Soror!!! God connected our families, and it was just extra special when I found out we were sisters through SGHRO. I'm praying for comfort and strength for the Smalls family and lifting my head to the sky to whisper, to tell my sister everything will be okay.

Ms. Nicole was instrumental to my development as a Mercer student. She challenged me to take hold of my future and see the potential others see in me. She was an inspiration, specifically to us African-American students, of what it meant to live in certainty of who we are and what we want to see in the world. It was a privilege to be known and loved by Ms. Nicole.

Nicole was unfathomably loved. I worked with her these past two years in tandem. We spent every minute together at work, we ate every lunch together in the cafe, had walkie-talkies between our offices, and often spent an extra hour after work talking in the parking lot together. She was Light and Sea and Air. Absolutely magic. We talked about work and our students, about love and life and music, our love of words, her health, our dogs, faith, and family. Her students adore her and I've spent the past two weeks with them filing into my office in tears. We are all broken without her.

The students keep asking about Donatello so give him a big hug from all of us.

Nicole and I grew close when I worked at Mercer. We talked about life and our careers. Tried restaurants together, made music together. Even through distance, she remained supportive and connected as ever. She celebrated my milestones and I did the same for her. I will miss her dearly.

To the family of my Beautiful and Blessed Nicole. Thank you for sharing your daughter with us. Thank you for allowing her heart to flow and touch each and every one of us on the Mercer University Campus. She has touched my heart in such a special way when helped me with my son while he was part of the Upward Bound program. With her guidance, she has watched him grow into the confident man he is today! Family, be comforted that Heaven has indeed gained an Angel.

Nicole...Nix, I am lost for words.

You are one of the most brightest, helpful, and resilient women that I have ever met. I thank GOD for our personal and professional memories shared together. You left an imprint on my heart for loving me and my family. Although we all wish this was not true, I pray you are receiving the peace you deserve; for always assisting others.

I worked with Nicole for over a year, but she made me feel welcomed and was always trying to help. I remember too that she could sing and was always up for a good Karaoke song and fun. My condolences and prayers go to her family and close friends. She will be greatly missed.

Nicole and I met during my tenure at Mercer University. We both are alumni and worked with the TRIO programs. During our time as colleagues, we became friends and we loved to sing together. Karaoke was one our favorite things to do together. In addition, we both believed in uplifting and inspiring the future generations through our professional and personal work. Nicole was instrumental and worked well with the Mercer University African American Alumni Association connecting alumni with the current students of the Minority Mentor Program at Mercer. She was a member of the D9 and always attended events to show her support. Lastly, Nicole beloved in God and always showed herself friendly. Rest well my sweet friend.

Nicole and I met at Mercer University in 2004. She lived across the hall from me and we immediately clicked. She was so characteristic and funny. She will be missed so deeply. May she rest in eternal peace. The picture is us circa 2007 at a college gathering.

My ten years working at Mercer was made wonderful due to having Nicole as my partner in crime , work wife , and ultimately the big sister I often needed to not only navigate communication woth others, but also life . We worked together , worked out together , saw marvel movies together. I'm grateful to have had that time with her . She was and is truly a blessing to all who know her. She was everyone's best friend.

Ever since meeting Nicole in our freshman year of college, she always had the voice, eyes, and smile that made me feel welcome. I could talk to her about anything and never feel judged. One of, if not the kindest humans I knew. I wasn't shocked at all when she went into mentorship and therapy work after college. She was special when it came to caring. As I said, you truly felt heard. I'm truly going to miss my friend.
