As Fred's former pastor, I always appreciated his work as Treasurer of First Presbyterian Church. Certainly here was a man who gave of himself for the good of the community.

I enjoyed over 20 years of doing business with Mr. Atkins, hiding under my desk when I had a huge bill to present him, but it was truly a blessing to have him as a resident and see the softer side of him and the devotion he had for life and family. A true gentleman. My prayers are with the entire family during this difficult time.

To the Atkins family,

We share in your loss as your Father and Mother were good friends of our family. I fondly recall that gracious smile and good nature of you Father. He was a positive influence on all those who met and knew him.

Neil, Tom and John
Uncle Fred was a wonderful man and he will be missed by all here.
I have fond memories of summers at camp with him and the entire Herrmann family.
When he and I would visit, we had great discussions about early Auburn, businesses, work, etc.
Uncle Fred was a conduit who kept us all informed about family, I hope we can all maintain contact with his passing.
I will not attend, but our thoughts, prayers and well wishes for you and yours are with my family.

I am writing this from Florida so I won't be
able to see one of my e-mail buddies, Neil
to give my regrets in person. NEIL, your
wonderful father lived a full life and with
his three children and grandchildren and his many outstanding contributions to his
Auburn community left a beautiful legacy.
God's speed, Fred.

Neil, Tom & John I was very sorry to hear about your Dad. I wish I could be there but at this time it is difficult. I am dog sitting my pastor's dog until next Friday and George is away for 2 weeks right now. I also have a friend coming in on Wed for a week to keep me company while George is away. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. I will always remember your Dad at the camp helping everyone to learn how to water ski. I had always wished I didn't live so far away and could have gotten to know everyone better. Hope you will keep in touch. I knew he was always very active but not as much as I have just read. What a wonderful life he had. Love, Larie
