You were very special to us. It was our privilege to have you as our friend. I believe Jesus wanted you home with him for a reason, but we miss your presence here on earth. I will always remember your sweet spirit.

Dear Friends,
We thank you all for your words of encouragement and support throughout Greg's illness and since his death.
Greg was, indeed, one of a kind who will be missed by so many. He loved life and he loved all of you, his family members, friends, colleagues and students.
Greg brought so much joy wherever he went, and Rachel and I are lucky to have been at the center of that enthusiasm for many years. We will miss him deeply, but we will strive to continue his legacy of loving life and the people who are part of it. God's grace will provide the way.
In gratitude,
Laurie and Rachel

My prayers go out to Mr. Vettes family and friends. I was one of his students a while ago, now even across the country years later his death saddens my heart.

Mr. Vette
I don't even know where to begin. You've been such a great teacher and role model to me. You have by far been one of the best, and the world really needs more people like you. I want to thank you for your many inspirations through high school, and strong support during my college application process. As I make my way through biochemistry, I know I will be constantly be reminded of you in memory. I just hope that I can continue on with your passion and goodwill. Thank you for all that you have given to me! We've all been blessed with your presence in our lives.
...till we meet again...

Greg,
I met you through your wife and daughter. Before I met you I knew that you were a good man because I could see such happiness in Laurie and Rachel. My husband and I spent one meal with you, but it only took one meal for us to respect you. Your loving attitude as a father and a husband was very evident to us, and we remember that very well. Now that we are new parents, I thank you for being a wonderful example to us of what it means to be a family.

Laurie & Rachel and Family. I ache to learn of your loss. Greg was such a special person to so many. I will always remember one amazing trek in the North Cascades together in 1985, where Greg's humor and encouragment lightened everyone's heart, and reminded us to look up from the trudge of the trail to the incredible landscape that lay above. On the plodding days ahead for you, as you miss his presence so acutely, I pray that you will still experience his legacy: his special gifts of faith and love, and the way that he could elevate life's everyday challenges into the extraordinary. I will never forget him. Blessings and prayers, Kate Maynard (formerly Willis)

Laurie, Rachel and family,
There is a human bond that connects us all. It may be like a delicate thread, but in special times it becomes like a line of steel that helps bind us, one to another.
This strand makes our sorrows more bearable, and in the long run that is what really matters. Greg will be missed by his family and his friends, but the thread of our human bonds will always keep some part of him with you. We hope it will be an added source of comfort to you at this time of grief to know that others care.
Love,
The Shrewsbury Family

Thank you Greg for being my friend. You reached out to me in so many ways: served me; cared for me; taught me; loved me. It is my story; it is the story of many of us.
As we talked about, several times before you left, it must be great to now know the many secrets of this plane existence: A unified theory of the universe; Bigfoot; Amelia Earhart; D.B. Cooper; the origin of the species; the perfect love of God. While I'm in no hurry myself to know these answers from the perspective you currently enjoy, I trust that you'll be there for me when my time comes to let me in on these and other wonders. And it is my hope that I and others can reach the very high bar you set for the rest of us toward this being human. It is a challenge worthy of a lifetime. I'll pray for God's help in this. It just isn't going to be easy!
The world just is not as interesting without you in it. And while this life that God gives me is rich, you've left me with a scar that will always be present. You have marked my life in countless ways, and I am eternally grateful.
