John Rainsford Obituary

EDGEFIELD, S.C. - John Rainsford, Jr., 84, of Main Street, entered into rest Thursday, May 18, 2006 at Edgefield County Hospital. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 20, 2006 at St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery, Edgefield, SC with Father Robert Ninedorf and Rev. Stacey Williams officiating. Pallbearers will be Adam Rainsford, James Rainsford, Holmes Rainsford, Matthew Rainsford, Todd Rainsford, and Brannon Rowland, Jr. The rosary will be held this evening at 6:00 p.m. at Rowland Funeral Home with visitation immediately following. Mr. Rainsford was a life long resident of Edgefield County and was the son of the late John Rainsford, Sr. and Allene D. Smith Rainsford. He graduated from the University of South Carolina and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Later, he attended Law School at the University of South Carolina. Mr. Rainsford was an Air Force Pilot Instructor in B24's and B29's during World War II. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Hezzie Griffis American Legion Post #30. He was retired forester and a warehouseman. Survivors include his wife, Lenolia 'Lynn' Whitt Rainsford of Edgefield; six sons, John Rainsford, III of Edgefield, Ben Rainsford of Edgefield, Dr. George Rainsford of Edgefield, Johnny L. Rowland of North Augusta, J. Brannon Rowland of Edgefield and Jody P. Rowland of North Augusta; one daughter, Margaret R. Childress of Edgefield; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 302 Jeter Street, Edgefield, SC 29824.
