Raymond Cannon Obituary

THOMSON, GA - Mr. Raymond Douglas Cannon, 78, of Ware Street, entered into rest Monday, September 1, 2003 at McDuffie Regional Medical Center. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jackie Mayes Cannon. Mr. Cannon was a native of Pulaski County, but lived in McDuffie County since 1951 serving with the Georgia State Patrol until his retirement in May of 1980. Mr. Cannon served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theatre where he was awarded the Bronze Star with clusters, and a Purple Heart. He was a member of Young Memorial Methodist Church. Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca C. and Michael W. Morris, Abilene, Texas, and Kay C. and David R. Usry, Martinez; grandsons, Jared Douglas Usry and Andrew Harris Usry, both of Martinez; a grand-daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Morris, Abilene, Texas; a brother, Mr. S.K. Cannon, Atlanta; and two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Rex and Mrs. Carolyn McKinley both of Hawkinsville. Graveside services will be held today, Thursday, September 4, 2003, at 2:30 p.m. at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with the Rev. C. Richard Dendler officiating. Pallbearers will be Jared Usry, Drew Usry, Captain Benje Cowart, Donnie Williams, Jessie Moore, and Victor Raley. All Georgia State Troopers, Active and Retired are asked to be Honorary Pallbearers. Friends may call at the home of David and Kay Usry, 121 Stone Mill Dr., Martinez, 706-860-4409. Memorials may be sent to the Peace Officers Association of Georgia, P.O.
