Veneta Hoar Obituary

Veneta Durrant Hoar 1915 ~ 2005 Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully on Oct. 15, 2005 in Sandy, Utah. She was 89 years old. Veneta was born on Nov. 12, 1915 in Lyman, Wyoming to Joseph Edward and Henriette Rich Durrant. She was the seventh daughter. Veneta married Vern Robert Hoar on Sept. 2, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. He preceded her in death. They had four children, J. Brent (Milly), Robert Carver (Linda), Christie (deceased), Penny (Dennis) Neumann; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Mom was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many positions including Primary President, Relief Society President, and Young Women's President at the age of 18. Mom was also Quilt Chairman for many years having as many as 25 quilts at a time. Her mother taught her well. She was active in the community helping with the Cancer Drive, Heart Fund, and Primary Children's Hospital to name a few. Mom taught school in Lyman, Wyoming when she was young and worked in the first J.C. Penneys in Evanston, Wyoming, later transferring to the Sugarhouse store as a cashier and bookkeeper. This is where Mom met our Dad. The remainder of her life was devoted to her family. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 21, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Lake Hills Memorial Park, 10055 South State Street. A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2005 from 6 - 8 p.m. and one hr prior to services at Lake Hills. Interment at Lake Hills Memorial Park. A special thanks and much appreciation for all of the help, concern, and care given to mom by the Staff, Nurses Aides, and Nurses at the Sandy Regional Medical Facility. In lieu of flowers a donation to the John C. Fremont Elementary, 4249 So. Atherton, Taylorsville, Utah 94123 in the name of Christie Hoar would be greatly appreciated. With the passing of Veneta, I'm reflecting on the many hours of service she rendered. The first time I met your delightful mother was when we worked on a March of Dimes campaign together. She continued to spear-head and organize one cause after another. truly helping where ever she was needed. She always had a smile for every one and a special twinkle in her eyes. What a legacy of love and service! I wasn't surprised to read of her passing, so quickly after Christie's. She surely loved and cared for her family. May our Father in Heaven continue to bless you all, during the days ahead.

Aunt Neat, as my family called her, was my 2nd grandma. She treated me like I was her grandkid and I was very glad for it having missed my grandmother so much all of these years. She was the last of all the sisters and I mourn the passing of a wonderful era in our lives. See you in heaven!

I am so grateful for the opportunity I had to get to know sister Hoar and for the love and dedication she displayed to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. To the family of Veneta Hoar, I wish to express my sympathy for your loss. Losing two family members inside a month is a bit overwhelming. I hope the joy of her memory as well as the hope of a future reuniting will swell in your hearts and assuage the grief you must feel. As a brother to Dennis, I feel her passing hits very close to home and is a poignant reminder to us all to cherish what we have while in this earthly existence. To the Hoar family, You have lost two very dear people in your family in such a short time. Your mom was such a delight when she came with Christie to our Fremont faculty parties. I will remember the joyful times with both of them. God bless you all.
