Charles Retz Obituary

Retz, Charles Henry
Charles Henry Retz died August 11, 2010 at 91 years of age. He was born in Grand View, NY October 29, 1918, son of Lillian and George Retz. He graduated from the Romford School in Washington, CT and attended Yale University in New Haven, CT and the Babson School of Finance. His love of flying was foremost in his life. In 1940 he went to Oklahoma and was a flight instructor for the R.A.F., where their pilots were receiving their training, at the Spartan School of Aeronautics. From there, he joined the United States Air Force in 1944 and served in the China, Burma and India theaters as a "hump" pilot. He received two Distinguished Flying Crosses and one Air Medal. After the war he joined American Airlines, and retired in 1978 and also retired from the Air Force Reserves. He and his wife loved golf, and moved to Scottsdale permanently from New Jersey in 1985. He was a member of the "Grey Eagles", the old Scottsdale Country Club and Mountain Shadows Golf Club. Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Audrey, son John and his wife Debora, and grandson Charles of Cheyenne, WY As he requested there will be no services, but a donation to Hospice of the Valley Eckstein Center, 9494 E Becker Lane, Scottsdale, AZ 85260-6720 would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Aunt Audrey-

Charlie was the best. He had a great life and I grieve for his loss with you but revel in the fact that I knew him. Miss and love you.
