David Hanna Obituary

David L. Hanna passed away in his home on Friday, December 10, 2004. He was born July 15, 1930 in San Diego, CA. but spent his early years in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Returning to San Diego at age 9, he attended Point Loma High School. He then went on to the California Institute of Technology graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After serving with the Army in the Korean War, David attended Stanford University earning his MBA. He met his wife, Gwen Berryman, while on vacation in the Hawaiian Islands and proposed to her on the second date. As a Vice President of Booze, Allen and Hamilton, the family lived in Pakistan, Mexico and Iran. Returning to the states in 1972, David and Gwen bought a wrought Iron business and became active in the community . The most notable community involvement by David was the 20+ years of service as chairman of the Rio Salado Commission, resulting in the Tempe Town Lake. David is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gwen; three children Kevin, Cynthia and Brian; two grandchildren, Shealeigh and Quinlan and two sisters, Sheelagh Baily and Suzanne Hanley. A memorial service will be held at Carr- Tenney Mortuary 2621 S. Rural Road in Tempe on Monday, December 20th, at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the City of Tempe/Rio Salado Dept. (contact: Edith Ross 350-2952) or the charity of your choice.
