Katherine Thomas Obituary
95, born July 28, 1915 in Vincennes, Indiana, passed away on September 14, 2010. Katherine married Leo F. Thomas on February 13, 1933. In 1938, they moved their family to Arizona, where they lived a full and active life. Preceded in death by Leo F. Thomas her husband of 53 years, her daughter Sister JoAnn Thomas CPPS, and her son Walter Michael Thomas. Survived by her devoted and loving son Leo P. Thomas (Shirley), her sister Louise Reitmeier in Vincennes, Indiana, her nephew Bob Williams (Charlotte), 9 grandchildren: Debbie Haddow (Rick), Joseph Thomas, Brian Thomas (Diane), Stephanie Thomas, David Thomas, Carl Annis, Michael Thomas, Richard Thomas and Tommy Thomas, 14 great-grandchildren and 6 great, great-grandchildren. Kate and Leo's loving relationship was an example and inspiration to all. In their later years, they enjoyed traveling, especially going on cruises and going to Las Vegas. They were long time parishioners of St. Mary's Church and enjoyed long standing membership to the Elk's Club. Kate was a beautiful lady and brought joy and love to all whose life she touched. She will be dearly missed by all. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm, Sunday, September 19, 2010 with a Rosary at 7:00 pm, at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road. Funeral Mass will be at 9:00 am, Monday, September 20, 2010 at St. Mary's Basilica, 231 N. 3rd St. Phoenix. Interment will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Kate's name to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phx., AZ 85014.

Kate was my next door neighbor for over two decades. Longer than any other neighbor in my life. I miss talking to her on her front porch and hearing stories of her youth in Vincennes, Indiana. Rest in peace, Kate.

I lived next door to Kate for over 24 years. She was a great neighbor and friend. The neighborhood will not be the same without her. She is missed by all who chatted with her daily while she sat on her front porch or worked in the yard, always keeping an eye on what was going on around her. I always enjoyed hearing her stories of her life back in Indiana before she followed her husband to Arizona. A piece of American history was lost when we lost Kate.
