Balaban, Selgene
Selgene Balaban of Scottsdale, AZ passed away on March 23, 2014. He was born in New York, NY to Harry and Rose Balaban. Selgene graduated as an electrical engineer in 1949 from Drexel Institute of Technology in Philadelphia, PA. In 1964 he obtained an MBA from University of Chicago. Until his move to Scottsdale he and his wife of 63 years resided in Highland Park, Illinois where they raised a family. Selgene was a US army WWll veteran who rose to the rank of Technical Sergeant in the Signal Corps. Selgene participated in 5 campaigns in the European Theater to include the Battle of the Bulge. He worked throughout his life as a professional registered electrical engineer and retired as an owner of the public company, Maxtec International Corporation/Telemotive Industrial Controls. During his career he was also the president of the Materials Handling Institute. He was an active member of Congregation Beth Israel in Scottsdale, AZ for over 20 years. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the National Kidney Cancer Foundation of Arizona and active in the National Kidney Foundation. Selgene Balaban is survived by his beloved wife, Anita Myra Balaban, his daughter Caryn Balaban (Al Bick), Wendy Lipsutz (Leonard), and Harry Balaban. He is also survived by his 3 grandchildren, Jeremy Walker, Stefanie Pollack (Tom), and Zackery Bauman (Ashlee) as well as his 3 great grandchildren, Elli Gene, Cali Marie and Andrew Clark. Selgene was laid to rest on March 24th at Mt. Sinai Cemetery in Phoenix, AZ Contributions in his memory can be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Arizona and Congregation Beth Israel. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.

So sorry to hear the news about Gene. We have lighted a candle and will keep him and you in our prayers. We had such special times together in the good ol' days at MHI!

We are so sorry for your loss. We spent many Sundays car pooling to B'nai Torah. Mr. Balaban was very nice. May he rest in peace. Love (the twins), Iris Paull Morgan and Linda Paull Wallace
