William Rose Obituary

William Hugh Rose William Hugh Rose, 77, of Phoenix, went to be with the Lord on December 17, 2008. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family. Bill was born December 23, 1930 in Flint, Michigan to Lois and Hugh Rose. Although his dad died when Bill was 16, their relationship had a lasting impact on him. Throughout Bill's life, he spoke fondly of his father, frequently imparting his dad's wisdom when raising his own family. Bill graduated from Flint Central High School, and in 1950, he married his childhood sweetheart and love of his life, Darice Joyce Murphy. In 1962, Bill sold his real estate and insurance businesses that he had built in Flint, and moved with Darice and their four boys to Arizona. Becoming successful in real estate, Bill developed shopping centers, office buildings, assisted living facilities, and home health agencies in Arizona and California. In 1975, he developed Scottsdale Village Square, the first assisted living facility in Scottsdale. Though he suffered a series of heart attacks in 1977, he was determined not to let it slow him down, recuperating to run several 10k's in the years that followed. In those years, he also was a member of the Phoenix Country Club, Phoenix Rotary 100, and served on the Fiesta Bowl Committee. Bill was an avid sports fan, particularly of the Detroit Tigers, Arizona Diamondbacks and Phoenix Suns, and he passed that enthusiasm on to his children and grandchildren. Throughout his life, his family brought him tremendous joy. From his four boys, to his seven grand kids, to his five great grand kids, he took great interest and stayed active in their lives: taking them on numerous family ski trips and to the 1984 World Series; teaching them how to shoot a basketball and how to throw a baseball; coaching them at all levels of Little League; teaching them how to golf; attending their high school wrestling matches and their baseball and football games; attending their comedy and theater shows. Always encouraging, always positive, always supportive, he was always there. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him: his children, Kerry (Elizabeth), Scott (Deborah), William, Jr. (Collene, deceased), and Timothy (Alejandra); grandchildren, Jason (Jordan), Scott, Jr. (Megan), Trevor (Julie), Christopher, Erica, Taylor and Kimberly; great grandchildren, Savannah, Luke, Piper, Logan and Carson; nieces, Dawn, Cheryl, and Rene. He departs this world and will be reunited in heaven with Darice, his wife of 58 years who passed away on August 31 of this year; his sister, Elizabeth Ann; his mother, Lois; and his dad, Hugh. Private family services are being planned. Messinger Indian School Mortuary assisted with arrangements. M

I shall miss your dad. His dry wit always gave me pause (to wonder how serious he was). His humility was to be emulated. His love for the family was unparalleled. He left us too young, but he left all of us with great memories.

Fondly,
your cousin Carol

To our dear cousins and their families:
Our thoughts and prayers have been with you during these sad times. I remember holidays in Michigan when we gathered at your grandmother's house. Two city schools always played against each other during that time. There were rival factions within the family! Good memories. Both your parents were beautiful, strong people.
They will be remembered.

Your cousins,
Dan Williams,
Cathey and Bill Holley
