AUDREY JEAN GUTHEIL
August 7, 1931 - November 16, 2022
Glenn William Gutheil was born on July 31, 1931 on a farm 12 miles southwest of the small farming community of Lang Saskatchewan Canada, and passed away on November 15, 2022 in Bakersfield California. Audrey Jean Gutheil (nee Scheurwater) was born 1 week later on August 7, 1931 in a farmhouse 1 mile north of the mail stop of Davyroyd Saskatchewan Canada and 16 miles North East of Assinaboia Saskatchewan Canada, and passed away on November 16, 2022. The '30s were hard years for farmers, and Audrey's family moved to Lang in the early '40s where her father took charge of running the grain co-op silos in Lang. Glenn's father was the one to have - auspiciously - offered him the position. Glenn and Audrey attended high school together in Lang, where they were two of their graduating class of four students. Glenn was the first of his family to attend college, first at the University of Regina and then at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, where he received a degree in Agricultural Business. Glenn went on to work for Elephant Brand Fertilizer and Cockshutt Co. as a salesman.
Glenn and Audrey reconnected in Regina in 1956 when Glenn saw Audrey carrying her fur coats to put into cold storage for the summer. He offered her a ride. Glenn and Audrey were married on August 30, 1958 in Regina. William Glenn Gutheil was born on July 1 1959. Glenn was offered the manager position of the JI Case store in Grande Prairie Alberta, to where the young family moved in 1960. Daniel Evan Gutheil was born on September 9, 1961 and Geoffrey Lee Gutheil was born on October 20 1964. Under Glenn's management the Grande Prairie Case store set many sales records, particularly for combines. The muddy soil in this region caused numerous clogs. The Grande Prairie store figured out how to modify the combines to prevent clogging, and sales soared. Glenn and Audrey were both avid curlers and participated in many curling events in Grande Prairie. There was also a sportsmen's club where fresh wild game was shared alongside fresh oysters shipped in from Prince Ruppert on the British Columbia coast. Glenn was offered the position of Regional Manager of the Midwest Region for Case, and in 1966 the family moved to Wichita Kansas. Glenn was traveling a lot during this time. Glenn decided that he was tired of traveling with three boys at home, and when the Bakersfield California Case store on Rosedale needed a new manager, he requested it. In 1971 the family moved to Bakersfield. Dad managed the Bakersfield Case store very successfully for more than 25 years. While their kids were growing up there were nearly annual road trips with the trailer to Canada to visit with and harass the relatives and visit every possible national park along the way.
During their time in Bakersfield Glenn and Audrey were very active socially and in the community. Dad was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Bakersfield where he served as club president and organized a popular chili cookoff event for several years. Audrey was an active member of Meals on Wheels for many years as well. Glenn and Audrey loved trailer camping and spent many weekends at Pismo Coast village with a whole gang of friends and their children! Glenn and Audrey also spent many Christmas holidays at Mammoth Ski Resort with other families, sometimes with up to 18 kids sleeping in the living room. After retiring from Case Glenn and Audrey relocated to Temecula California where they enjoyed the climate, the views, and golfing.
Glenn and Audrey are survived by their three sons and families: William (Bill) Gutheil, wife Polina Shaposhnyk, and son Damian Gutheil; Daniel (Danny) Gutheil, wife Desiree DeNio, and daughter Ava Jean Gutheil; Geoffrey Lee Gutheil, and wife Janet Mills.
Glenn was predeceased by his parents William Earl and Maybelle Cordelia (nee Gusk) Gutheil, and his brothers George, Floyd, Harold, Ralph, and Clarence. Audrey was predeceased by her parents Derik (Richard) and Susan Jane (nee Campbell) Scheurwater, and sister Lillian Hare (nee Scheurwater). Glenn and Audrey also lost their grandson (Geoff's son) Caleb Benjamin Gutheil and Geoff's first wife Terri Huhn.
Glenn and Audrey were married 64 years and loved each other's company. They each passed away peacefully in their sleep one day apart. They will be missed and remembered, together forever.
