Jeff Langston Obituary

Jeff Langston April 3, 1962 - April 17, 2013 Jeff was born in Bakersfield, CA to Dennis and Carol Langston on April 3, 1962. He was taken from us suddenly on April 17, 2013 after a battle with heart disease Coming from a "musical family", it was only natural that Jeff follow in his family's footsteps and enter the sound business. His father was a Jazz drummer and sound engineer, and his mother was a classical violinist. Jeff heard his first jazz music at one week of age and owned his first reel to reel at four years of age. He attended Castro Lane and Plantation Elementary, Greenfield Jr. High, and graduated in 1980 from South High. Jeff got his first chance to start mixing on his own when his dad put him on the console at the age of 13 at a Buck Owens' concert. It started a 38-year career that has been exciting and yielded many friendships. Jeff worked for many sound companies along with working for his dad at L-tron electronics, but eventually made his home at Pacific West Sound. Five years ago, God guided him to also take a sound position at First Presbyterian Church. He is preceded in death by his Paternal and Maternal Grandparents; his father Dennis Langston; and, his stepfather Jerry Gentry. He is survived by his mother, Carol Gentry; the Love of his Life for 20 years, Sheryll Helms; Brothers, Brian Langston (Bobbi), Dale Gentry (Tarrah) and Ken Gentry (Shauna); Grandmother, Mary Gentry; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 1705 17th St. on May 3, 2013 at 11:00 am in the sanctuary. Jeff always said, "No mix is perfect, but all you can do is strive for excellence for the glory of God." And "If you miss me, then perfect your aim next time." God's aim was perfect. www.bakersfield.com/obits

Jeff, I have waited a while to write something for you. You were my Love, my Soul, my Protector, My "Lobster" for over 20 years. Only time can heal the pain I've been left with. I can only be helped by remembering the good times, the times we laughed to hard that we couldn't stop; the times when you showed me such love and compassion just by saying nothing at all. I know you are with God, but that still doesn't fill the huge hole that is left in my heart. "I love you, Baby!" That's what we would say to each other. Till I see you again.

Oh my brother, my brother!:-( I am so heartbroken as we all are, but you are in a better place right now buddy. No more pain. Now in His kingdom. It was so funny that me and you met by random chance back at a mutual friend's party so long ago, unbeknowst that both of our fathers knew each other from the industry when we were kids. Small world, but I am so happy to have been part of yours. I uploaded the last picture we took when I was out there a few years ago at moms to your gallery here online. Thank you for being you. You will always be MY JAMF.

Jeff I will miss you especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas and other family gatherings. You made me laugh with the silly banter we shared. Last time I saw you, you said to me "You have to love me because we are family" and I told you "I married into the family so I didn't have to love you but I chose to love you because you are you" and I meant it. R.I.P my friend and brother-in-law you are forever in my heart. My thoughts, prayers and love go out to Sheryll and Carol

Jeff had a great sense of humor and was a master of quick wit. Some of the first jokes I ever heard were out in my Aunt Carol and Uncle Jerry's garage courtesy of my cousin Jeff.He never judged, "at least not me" and told you what he thought whether it was fashionable to say or not. I will miss him very much.
