Lilyane DesBrisay Obituary

Lilyane Marie-Louise Adrian DesBrisay 15 October 1932 - 29 October 2012 Lilyane was born in B?e (Annaba), French Algeria, and died peacefully at age 80 of heart failure related to complications from diabetes in Burlingame, CA. She was a colorful citizen of many worlds. Her style, sense of humor, and unique character will be deeply missed. Her family thanks all those that share their grief in such kind and comforting ways. Lilyane was the eldest daughter of Louis Edouard Adrian and Alice Georgette Lehmann Adrian of Lezoux near Clermont-Ferrand, France. Lilyane had a very full and extraordinary life that started in French North Africa, moving to central France at the age of 14 and then to California in 1958 after meeting her husband of 43 years, Charles L. DesBrisay, who was stationed at a US Air Force base in Moulins, France where she was working as a secretary. The couple lived the first few years of their married life in Ventura, CA and Farmington, NM before settling in Bakersfield, CA in 1964. She took to her new life in Bakersfield steadfastly except for a 5-year relocation with her husband to Doha, Qatar in the Middle East during the mid-1990s. She was a member of the Bakersfield French Club and the Bakersfield Community Concert Association. Lilyane was a lover of art, design, interior design, travel, gardening, and animals of all types, especially cats. She helped support the family as a jewelry store clerk at Wickersham Jewelers, a doctor's office receptionist for Dr. Casteen, and a floral designer at Conroy's. Lilyane is survived by three sons; Gregory and wife Sonya of San Carlos, CA, Christopher and wife Cynthia of Cape May, NJ, and Lloyd and husband Gaston Alonso of NY, NY; three grandsons: Jasper, Bryce, and McKinley of San Carlos, CA; two nephews and a niece: Frederic Adrian, Yvan Lauradour Desfraises, and Armelle Adrian, all of France. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two siblings, Anny Adrian Lauradour and Jean-Louis Adrian. Services will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Anglican Church in Bakersfield, CA followed by interment at Hillcrest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Bakersfield SPCA, or any organization that supports animal care, support, and rescue or to organizations for diabetes research. To the fantastic sons of Lilyane: Greg, Arnold, and Lloyd

My thoughts are with you and your families. The three of you are some of my fondest memories of students. Each one of you contributed so much to the class because of your family--your mom and your dad. I will never forget our trip with your mom's parents in the south of France. Your mom and I shared grief at the time your aunt was going through her difficulties with cancer because of our family going through the same situation. The French club in the 70's was "Your MOM". The chance meetings at the supermarket were always a pleasure. I share in your loss. I would have been so pleased to see you at the services, but I am out of town. Dell-Louise Marsh
