Maria Rubio Obituary

Maria Elena "Nena" C. Rubio January 27, 1938 - September 1, 2011 Maria Elena was born in Cedillos, Chihuahua, Mexico. She was the daughter of Evaristo and Simona Rubio. Her family immigrated to the United States under the Brazero program in 1955 and settled in Pecos, Texas. Eventually, she and her husband joined most of her siblings that had already settled in Bakersfield, California. Nena loved music, she loved to sing and to dance. She enjoyed traveling and winning a good debate. She was proud of many accomplishments but none greater than her children and their spouses; Sandra Lara, Lupe and Esther Lara, Fred and Zina Lara, Steve Lara, George and Helen Lara, Fernando and Lee Lara and Felipe and Leticia Sanchez. Going by her newest names of "Abuelita" or "Lita", her loving arms gave warmth and comfort to 21 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren which were all equally loved and spoiled. The smell of homemade tortillas and mouth-watering spices filled the air every Sunday morning at the weekly open house buffet-style brunch. In her home and her kitchen, all were welcome. Even though there is now a void in our lives, we know she is laughing out loud and kissing the faces of the angels that have gone before her - her parents, her siblings; Antonio, Manuel, Luciano and Juan Rubio, Ramona Aceves and Maria Herrera and her most precious son Lupe Lara Jr. She was too feisty for a long dragged out illness. We are thankful that one minute she was laughing and visiting over a cup of coffee and one hour later peacefully went to sleep. She will be extremely missed by her sisters Eva Martinez and Elvia Rubio, her children and hundreds of nieces, nephews and cousins. Special thanks and appreciation to "el chulo" Dr. Debarros and Lupita at Kaiser Permanente for being so caring and diligent with her medical care and to our local heroes at the Kern County Fire Department for their heroic efforts in her last moments. Pallbearers are Raymond Sanchez, Abram Sanchez, Nick Lara, Michael Lara, Eric Lara, Anthony Lara, A.J. Cruz and Steven Lara Jr. Honorary Pallbearer is Vincent P. Lara. Visitation: Wednesday, September 7, from 4-8 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel with Rosary at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Service: Thursday, September 8, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. www.bakersfield.com/obits

"OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU ALL".

September 8, 2011

I just know that she is in heaven smiling (with Lupe right by her side) singing, dancing and feeling the warmth and love of God......
May God bless Maria Elena's family with the peace of God that surpasses all understanding.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

My heart goes out to the family. It's very hard to lose a Mother, but it's comforting to know she is laughing in Heaven. She is no longer in pain and she has nothing to worry about. She was one of my mom's best friends and now they are together. She will be missed. Love you.
