PATRICK DALE HARRISON

August 18, 1935 – May 15, 2024

SLO – Patrick "Pat" Dale Harrison was born August 18, 1935, to Genevieve Heguy-Harrison-Laxague and Phillip Harrison, and passed away peacefully on May 15, 2024 in San Luis Obispo, California with his children by his side.

He leaves his daughter and son-in-law Stacey & Jessie Rivas; his son and daughter-in-law Scott & Kolleen Harrison; his grandchildren Vicente, Sofia, Trevor, Connor, Mackenzie, Chandler, Sophia and Sydnie and his great-grandchildren Saylor, Stetson and Sterling.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Barbara "Dinky" Jean Panelli-Harrison and son Craig Michael Harrison.

Pat was born in Santa Barbara, CA but spent most of his life in Bakersfield, CA. Growing up he could be found playing many different sports, billiards at the pool hall, fighting, or attending his Basque heritage functions. He attended Garces Memorial High School where he met Barbara and many other life-long friends. After high school Pat served in the U.S. Army. Soon after returning, he and Barbara got married and moved to Fresno so Pat could attended California State University, Fresno. After graduating, they returned to Bakersfield where he had a long career with Kern County and retired as the Chief Auditor Appraiser for the County.

Pat played a big part in his children's lives. He was ever present for his immediate and extended family. He coached many Little League Baseball/Softball teams. He was an enthusiastic fan at swim meets, soccer matches, baseball, and basketball games. He loved helping friends of his children with rides to practices or games, offering advice and other support. One could see him beaming with excitement, playing with or watching his grandchildren's activities as well. He loved watching the Dodgers with his wife and playing fantasy football with his son and friends. Pat was an amazing storyteller that would capture all in ear shot when talking about his life. The main topics were growing up in Oildale, attending Garces, working on the railroad, Honky-tonks, fights and especially his family.

Pat was strong in his Catholic faith, he attended masses weekly until he went into the hospital shortly before he passed. He was a very generous man with his time, money and love. Pat was a wonderful husband, father, uncle, friend, brother, grandfather, mentor and role-model. He will be truly missed.

He requested a private service, and for his family and friends to donate to a local homeless shelter or to any charity of their choice.

I offer my deepest condolences to you for the loss of your father and our family member.
I am going through an old steamer trunk left behind by Grandma Lee. There are photos and other memorabilia reminiscent of Dink and Pat. She loved Pat! When I transferred to Fresno State I stayed with Dink and Pat for a couple of months. I have fond memories of that time and profoundly miss both of them. Uncle Nello

Sending prayers of comfort to Pat´s family and loved ones. I worked with Pat for many years on Truxtun Avenue and knew him to be a beautiful soul, inside and out, well respected and a great leader.
