Samuel Joseph Amenta, 87, died Thursday at his home in Bakersfield, Ca. He lived in Bakersfield for the past 53 years.
Mr. Amenta was very active in the community and in many service organizations. He was instrumental in the establishment of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in the early 1950s.
He was an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Knights of Columbus and served as President of the Serra Club and the Italian Heritage Dante Association.
Mr. Amenta will be remembered by his family and friends and all who knew him as a loving and generous man.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marie, son Philip J. Amenta of Bakersfield, Ca, daughters Ave Brown and Ann Reiseck of Hemet, Ca, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and sister Rose Casale of Bakersfield, CA.
Services will be private.
