Alan Simon

1939 - 2016

Alan Joseph Simon, of Ellicott City, died at his home on July 8, 2016. Born on February 14, 1939 in Chicago, IL, he was the son of Lenard Lewis Simon and Evelyn Klinger Simon. He was a loving husband for 51 years to Joan Perry Simon. He grew up on the East Side of South Chicago. He graduated from DePauw University with a BA degree in Physics and from Carnegie-Mellon University with a MS in Electrical Engineering. Most of his career was with Westinghouse Research and Development Center in Pittsburgh, PA and with Hybrid Engineering in Baltimore, MD. A devoted family man who lovingly supported his daughters in their sporting and musical endeavors. He enjoyed carpentry, bridge, traveling, photography, and vacations to the lake. His church life centered around singing bass in the Chancel Choir. Alan is survived by his wife, his daughters Deborah L. Simon and Julie S. Morse, his son-in-law Saul R. Morse, grandchildren Ian A. Morse and Evelyn D. Morse. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Lenard R. Simon. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 16th, at Bethany United Methodist Church, 2875 Bethany Lane, Ellicott City, MD. The family will be receiving friends at 10:00 a.m. in the church prior to the service at 11:00. A luncheon will follow in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Music Ministry at Bethany United Methodist Church or to a charity of your choice.
