Elmer Owens Obituary

OWENS, JR., Elmer H. On April 14, 2006, OWENS, ELMER H. JR. 83, Colonel, U.S. Army Reserve, Retired. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Joanne (nee Jamieson), his daughter Kathleen Jamieson and her husband Roland Viger of Arlington VA, his son Michael Owens and his wife Mimi of Columbia, MD; four grandchildren: Julia, Peter, Grace and Brooks Owens; and his sisters, Marilyn Parkin of Linthicum, MD, and Marlyn Fischer and her husband John of Iowa. Colonel Owens was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre of operations with the 19th Infantry Division. He participated in beachhead landings in the Philippine Islands and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious duty in combat. In civilian life, he worked for the Equitable Trust Company for 31 years in positions as a bank teller, branch manager and manager in the Auditing Department. Mr. Owens was an avid stamp collector and an accomplished woodworker and craftsman. He made several grandfather clocks and Tiffany-style lamp shades which are cherished by his family. In retirement, he was active in the Dr. Charles B. Frank VFW Post 219 in Catonsville, MD. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 28th at 11:00 A.M. at Linthicum Heights United Methodist Church. Internment at Arlington National Cemetery in June will be private.

Both Karen and I would like to share our deepest sympathies with the Owens family. Mr. Owens was one of the finest individuals we've had the pleasure of knowing--a true "gentle man."
