Eric Hairston Obituary
GREENSBORO — Eric Rochel Hairston departed this life on Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at Morehead Hospital in Eden, N.C.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, December 17, at Calvary Christian Center, 811 Jefferson Road, Greensboro, N.C., with Dr. John W. Tinsley officiating. The interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.
Born July 29, 1965, he was the son of Robert Lee and Mae Fannie Morrison Hairston. Eric was a 1983 graduate of John Motley Morehead Senior High School in Eden, N.C., were he lettered in basketball for four years. Eric was formerly married to Valerie Carter and to this union were born two daughters, Jazmine and Amanda.
"E," "Slim", or "Big E", as he was affectionately known, was described as a fun-loving, easy-going and warm-hearted person. He spent the latter part of his life running his own business, Hairston Tree Services in Greensboro, N.C., and spending most of his free time playing the game he loved most, basketball. God called him to eternal rest during his final basketball game on Tuesday, December 11, 2007.
Eric was preceded in death by one brother, Keven Lamar Hairston.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved daughters, Jazmine and Amanda Hairston of Greensboro, N.C.; his parents, Robert Lee and Mae Fannie Hairston of Eden, N.C.; his long-term girlfriend, Teressa M. Stephens, Greensboro, N.C.; four brothers, Ricky Hairston (Carolyn) of Eden, N.C., Lloyd Hairston of Eden, N.C., Robert Gregory Hairston of Greensboro, N.C., and Vince Hairston (Cheryl) of Greensboro, N.C.; four sisters, Cynthia Hairston Stratton (Darryl) of Longview, Texas, Sylvia Hairston Knight (Jeff) of Raleigh, N.C., Iris Hairston Grady (Devone) of Charlotte, N.C., and Kamieka Hairston of Sacramento, Calif.; Teressa's children and grandson, Aprille R. McPhaul, Jamee L. McPhaul and Brandee D. Stephens, Jayden McPhaul of Greensboro, N.C.; eight nephews, four nieces, one great- nephew, one great-niece, and a host of aunts, uncles, family and friends.
Family hour will be held from 1 until 1:30 p.m., prior to the service on Monday, December 17.

I had only met Eric three months ago. I was a member of his pool team that played out of Iguanas in Greensboro. The week before he left us, Eric told me that he had made a new friend and introduced me to a couple of his friends as his new friend. In just those three short months I came to know Eric as a tremedously nice guy. Only the good die young. I will miss him. My condolences to his family and friends.

I thank God for the time we all had with "E". We all knew when "E" was around we were gonna have a good time. He was the best at everything not just basketball, we all need to remember he was a TRUE friend, partner, father, brother, cousin, uncle, Grandaddy and so much more.
