Wilfred Mottley Obituary

MOTTLEY , Wilfred "Bill" WILFRED "Bill" MOTTLEY, passed away July 5, 2009 after a short illness. He is remembered by all who knew him as a devoted and caring husband and family man, a leader in local civic life, and an even-minded and principled person. His active interest and involvement in life and his interest in learning made him a role model for all in his family. He was born on January 29, 1920 in Plainfield, NJ the son of two Irish immigrants. Bill was a veteran of WW II, serving in the Pacific in the US Army 842nd Single Service Company from 1944 to 1946. Upon his return from the Pacific, Bill earned his Bachelors degree at Rutgers University on the GI Bill. He raised his family in Harrington Park, NJ from 1959 to 1988 and was active in civic life and also served as a member of the Town Council. He also found time to be a Boy Scout leader of Troop 111, head of the Englewood Hospital Volunteers, and was a communicant at Our Lady of Victories R.C. Church. He worked for American Cyanamid Corporation from age 17 to 63, starting as a bottle washer in a lab at 35 cents an hour and ending his career 47 years later in a management position, directing the move of the company's headquarters from Manhattan to New Jersey. Bill was predeceased by wives, Alice (nee Butler) in 1968 and Rose (nee Roth) in 1987. He married Teru Morimoto in 1988, and in his later years happily traveled the world with Teru to destinations including Japan, Italy, Russia, China, Turkey, England, France, Mexico, as well as Switzerland and Spain, where they frequently visited with close friends. They also spent time in the summers in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Upon his third marriage, Bill moved to Tappan, NY and moved 10 years ago to the Broadmead community near Baltimore, MD. At Broadmead he served as President of the Resident's Association. Bill is survived by wife Teru Mottley; children, Patricia Werner, Lawrence Mottley, Richard Mottley and Lin Chaves; grandchildren Patrick and Kerry Dorton, Alison and Lindsay Mottley-Marqusee, Ian, Tara and Ciara Mottley, Ben and Emma Chaves; great-grandchildren Zoe Cameron, Lily, Eliza and Logan Dorton.
