Rev. Allan C. Oggs Sr.

Allan Oggs Obituary

Rev. Allan C. Oggs, Sr. was born on September 17, 1935 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Rev. and Mrs. Theodore A. Oggs, Jr. He passed from this life at Harbour Hospice on Saturday, September 22, 2007 in Beaumont. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Gwenelda; his son and daughter-in-law Allan, Jr. and Cheryl of Port Charlotte, Florida; his daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Greg Myers of Beaumont; his daughter and son-in-law, Jody and Dr. Chris LaFleur of Beaumont; his grandchildren, Clint and Monica Oggs of St. Benard, Louisiana, Greg Myers, Jr. of Beaumont, Maggi, Claire, and Grace LaFleur all of Beaumont; his great-grandchildren, Rayna, Ashton, and Meriska Oggs all of St. Benard, Louisiana. He was an ordained minister of United Pentecostal Church, International, and an active member of New Life Tabernacle in Beaumont. His illustrious career was challenged from the very beginning. At birth, he was diagnosed with severe Cerebral Palsy, and was never suppose to walk, talk, or see. But the grace of God in his life enabled him to enjoy over fifty years of ministry, marriage, and family, during which he traveled and preached the Gospel all over the United States. He graduated from Kenner High School in Kenner, Louisiana in 1955. Surrendering to the call of God, he graduated from Pentecostal Bible Institute in Tupelo, Mississippi in 1958. He then served as Senior Pastor to churches in Port Sulphur, Louisiana, Beloit, Wisconsin, Kenner, Louisiana, West Helena, Arkansas, and Gainesville, Florida. His pastoral career was interrupted from 1970 until 1973, when he served as the Promotional Director of Youth Redemption – a drug rehabilitation effort at the World Evangelism Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Concluding his pastoring career, he served as the Executive Vice President of Jackson College of Ministries in Jackson, Mississippi from 1982-1986. During his tenure at JCM, he instructed thousands of young people in the techniques of ministry. Today, many of his former students serve in various ministerial capacities around the world. Upon leaving JCM, Rev. Oggs began and directed Pulpit Ministries for the next twenty-one years until a stroke incapacitated him in December 2006. His desire to the very end was to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to anyone would listen. He was a gifted speaker and prolific writer having many published titles such as: Today is the Beginning, You Gotta Have the Want To, You Gotta Get Up Again, and Closing Out – I Enjoyed the Campaign. He gained national media attention while appearing as a guest on Dr. James Dobson's, Focus on the Family, radio broadcast when he shared his testimony of overcoming the effects of Cerebral Palsy by his commitment to Christ and steadfast determination. He would argue that his greatest accomplishments were to love the Lord Jesus, his family, and friends more than any position he ever held. He was a "Prince of Preachers", and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 24, 2007 at New Life Tabernacle Church with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. A gathering of family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Sunday, September 23, 2007 at the Mortuary. Complete and updated information may be viewed at www.broussardsmortuary.com

To the Oggs family:

You all have held a special place in our hearts for many years. I continue to use the preaching outline that Bro. Oggs taught me over 25 years ago.

Our times together through the years will always be remembered with a smile.

Because he believed in a kid with no "pedigree", I've been blessed to minister and pour into others that needed the same encouragement.

Our prayers are with you all at this time,

One of the most incredible things happened to me yesterday. As I was waiting on a return call from a Pastor friend, a thought came to me to preach this weekend, "You Gotta Have the Want To."

As I gathered illustrations and supporting Scriptures, it dawned on me that this was not an original thought of mine, so I began to attept to "dig out" where I had heard this message prior.

Having sat under Kenny Marshburn in Lexington, NC for many years my mind raced to old messages preached by him. After scouring through old notes to no avail, I decided to "Google" this thought to see if I cam across anything.

Searching through somewhere around a dozen websites, I came across a website with a Sermon from Allan C. Oggs Sr. titles, "You Gotta Have the Want To" and it dawned on me that I had heard Bro. Oggs preach this message over 10 years ago, and following I purchased that same book title.

Thank you Bro. Oggs for challenging Young Preachers to stay the call, no matter the cost.

Than you Bro. Oggs for once again challenging this (STILL) Young Preacher!!!!

I have distinct and unforgettable memories of Brother Oggs and his unique ministry that date back more than 40 years. It was never a challenge to remember the title of his message (or the content, for that matter). He will be missed severely. A favorite memory is of him playing racquetball and saying, "you are not going to tell anyone if you beat me, but I am going to tell everyone if I beat you.....smile"

I have fond memories of Bro Oggs through the years as he traveled and preached in many services. I can see him dancing and rejoicing with the Lord totally uninhibited. My prayers are with you as you say goodbye to this precious man.

We extend our deepest sympathies for your loss but we rejoice with you that Bro. Oggs lived in truth and now is experiencing all that Heaven has for him. Forever being in the presence of God, a new body, no pain, no sorrow, streets of gold, walls of jasper....too many things to tell. We will continue to pray for each of you.

We are so sorry for your loss. Bro. Oggs spoke at our church in Oconomowoc, WI many times. He was truly annointed and I have many of his books. I have circulated "You Gotta Have the Want To" to many of my unsaved friends and family. His story was truly inspirational.

Bro. Oggs truly touched our hearts the many times he ministered here at Lighthouse Pentecostal Church of Beebe, Arkansas. Without a doubt, many will be in heaven as a result of the perseverance they were taught by this great legend who is now living, and enjoying his new body, on the other side. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the family during this time of great loss.
