Alton O. Laird

1947 - 2014 Alton O. Laird, age 67, of Beaumont, Texas, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2014, after a protracted illness. He was born in Port Arthur, Texas, on July 25, 1947, to the late Jake Laird and Ola Davis Laird. Alton was a graduate of Port Neches-Groves High School and attended Lamar University. A long-time resident of Beaumont, Alton was a pillar of the community as a faithful member of the Westgate Church of Christ, the business owner of Alton's Automotive, Inc. for forty-three years, and an active participant in several charities. He loved helping the homeless, widows, orphans, and those that society had brushed aside. An avid hunter and fisherman, Alton loved the outdoors and was extremely proud of his family, and especially his grandchildren. He loved talking with people and sharing his faith in Christ. Alton is survived by his loving wife, Maria A. (Toni) Laird; his two daughters, Dr. Stephanie M. and her husband, (Benjamin) Copeland, of Irving, Texas, and Jennifer A. and her husband (Paul) Plumley of McLean, Virginia; two grandchildren, Isabella A. Copeland and Clay Alton Plumley; his brother, Donald Laird of Nederland, Texas; his mother-in-law, Eva Garza of Beaumont, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Neva Adeline Lindsey. Mr. Laird's funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont, with a private interment for immediate family.
