Anni Schaefer
Anni M. Schaefer, 75, of Granite City, Ill., born Jan. 4, 1931, in Ulm, Germany, died at 5 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2006, at Gateway Regional Medical Center, Granite City, Ill.
Mrs. Schaefer was an avid seamstress and was known for making wedding dresses and hats. She was the owner and operator of Maytag Highlander Center and worked cleaning homes of others. She was a member of the Greater Beneficial Union and the American Heritage Farm Museum and attended St. John United Church of Christ. She enjoyed her day of baking and shopping and will be remembered for the love of her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Anna, nee Sauter, Heinz; two grandchildren, Leonard W. Schaefer and Stephanie C. Ellsworth; a brother, Edwin Heinz; and a sister, Lotte Bauerle.
Surviving are her beloved husband of more than 51 years, Leonard W. Schaefer of Granite City, Ill., whom she married Dec. 11, 1954, at St. John United Church of Christ, Granite City, Ill.; two daughters and three sons, Barbara I. (Marcus) Piper, Loretta M. Stephan, Leonard E. "Lennie" (Lynn) Schaefer, Raymond (Trudy) Schaefer, and Clifford F. (Sheri) Schaefer Sr., all of Granite City, Ill.; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and other extended family and many friends.
Memorials may be made to the American Heritage Farm Museum in Greenville, Ill., or St. John United Church of Christ and may be accepted at the funeral home.

Visitation: Friends may call, in celebration of his life, from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, Ill., and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at St. John United Church of Christ, Granite City, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at St. John United Church of Christ, Granite City, Ill., with the Rev. Karla Frost and the Rev. Denise McGary officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, Ill.
