Douglas Winfield

Douglas Cunningham Winfield, 67, of Granite City, Ill., born April 11, 1947, in St. Louis, Mo., passed away at 5:51 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2015, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

Mr. Winfield retired as a postmaster in 2006 from the United States Postal Service after over 30 years of dedicated service. He had also owned and operated Winfield Smokehouse and was known as the "Head Pit" master. He was a member of the AMVETS Post 204 in Madison. He loved his days of playing golf and was a member of several golf leagues. He also loved barbecuing and pheasant and quail hunting. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Millard O. Winfield; and a grandson, Max Winfield.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Cheryl Ann, nee Caudron, Winfield, whom he married on Jan. 23, 1970, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City, Ill.; his mother, Sylvia K., nee Hood, Winfield of Granite City; a daughter, Jennifer Winfield of Granite City; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Sarah Winfield of Warson Woods, Mo., Greg and Amanda Winfield of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Corey and Christina Winfield of Granite City; five grandchildren, Kori Ann, Isabella, Berkley, Cameron and Colton; five brothers and sisters and their spouses, Judy and Bob White of Maryville, Brian and Jeanette Winfield of Granite City, Mary and Brad Boone of Granite City, Nancy and David Hauptman of Glen Bernie, Maryland and Bruce Winfield of Granite City; many aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; cousins; other extended family and friends.

The family suggest memorials be made to the Thoracic Surgery Foundation for Research and Education and may be made at www.tsfre.org or accepted at the funeral home. www.irwinchapel.com

Visitation: In celebration of his life, a memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, Ill.

I wish all of you peace in the loss of your precious Doug. What a legacy he leaves to all of you! An exemplary son, brother,husband, father, cousin and relative. He had the same love for the family that his father did. Always a ready smile and open heart. God Bless all of you and may you all have courage for this time of sorrow.
