Harry Gorazd

Herman, "Harry:" Gorazd, 82, of O'Fallon, Ill., born Nov. 3, 1929, in Hamtramck, Mich., was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him. He passed away in his sleep on Oct. 12, 2012, in the company of his family.

He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Yesterday's Kids, retired driver for Hunter Packing, the John Morrell & Company, and Retired Teamsters Local No. 50 member. He loved to go boating, camping playing billiards and attending his grandsons hockey games. He enjoyed visiting casinos in Las Vegas, Tunica and locally. He always enjoyed the comrade` of family and friends, spending time at family functions and parties. Harry served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and married his childhood sweetheart upon his return. Harry and Virginia recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Joseph and Anna, nee Baron, Gorazd, brother and sister in law; Richard and Carol, nee Leveling, Gorazd; two sisters in-law, Delores Starks and Judith Barger; two brothers in-law, Oliver Starks and Oak Cummings.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia "Dee," nee Barger, Gorazd; daughter, Sandra (Wes) Dugan of East Alton, Ill.; son, Steve (Angie) Gorazd of Lebanon, Ill.; five grandchildren, Jamie Higgerson, Eric Higgerson, Stephan Gorazd, Alex Dugan and Matthew Gorazd; one great-grandchild, Wesley; sister-in-law, Carol Cummings. His many nieces and nephews; Susie Oberneufemann of O'Fallon, Ill., Peggy and Phillip Schildknecht of O'Fallon, Ill., Rich and Mary Beth Gorazd of O'Fallon, Ill.., Mary Jo Frain of Troy, Ill., and Kimberly Barger of Caseyville, Ill.

Our sincere thanks to Dr. Joel Picus and the caring supporting staff of the Siteman Center and to Heartland Hospice who took such excellent care of him.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at Schildknecht Funeral Home, O'Fallon, Ill., 301 S. Lincoln Ave., O'Fallon, Ill. 62269.



Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 625 St. Nicholas Dr., O'Fallon, Ill. 62269, with Monsignor William Hitpas officiating. Burial will be at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Ill.
