Gary Lysne Obituary

Gary Conrad Lysne, November 24, 1947 - October 17, 2016 Gary was born in Bremerton, Washington to Johan and Lucile Lysne. He graduated from Rainier Beach High School and earned his Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Puget Sound. On December 23, 1966, he married Cristi McCullom. He is survived by Cristi, daughters Tonya Lysne and Heidi Lysne Evatt, son-in-law Patrick Evatt, and three grandchildren, Laurel, Vivienne and Landon Evatt. Gary was a Veteran, serving in Vietnam in the Army Combat Infantry Division and Reserves. Gary served the public as a Seattle Police Officer for 27 years, as a Patrol Officer, Officer Friendly, Detective, Police Academy Instructor, and Harbor Patrol Diver. Throughout life, Gary enjoyed every day to the fullest. He was an adventurous spirit who loved to explore. He always chose the scenic route, the back road, the remote river or the hidden cove. Many people were touched by Gary's love of water activities on his beloved Lake Whatcom in Bellingham. He was happiest there, playing with his family and friends. Memorial Service will be held on October 29th, at 12:00pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, 119 Texas Street, Bellingham. Memorial donations may be made in his honor to the scholarship fund for Vietnam Veterans of Whatcom County, Chapter 165, P.O. Box 29885, Bellingham, WA 98228.

We spent a lot of time together riding together back and forth to Fort Ord. California. He talked a lot about Viet Nam and how proud he was to serve his country. He was also proud of the men in his unit. He was especially proud that none of them got killed and all of them came home. They did not like that he made them carry three canteens of water and low crawl every where they went but they all came home. I remember a story about when he came home from Nam that he stayed in shape by running with his dog. He said he ran the legs off his dog. He was an inspiration to me and all the Drill Sergeants he came in contact with. He was the real deal.

Gary low crawled his way through 13 months of Nam. He was an outstanding Drill Sergeant and mentor for me. He supported me through my entire Drill Sergeant training year. I wish I had looked him up many years ago, he was a great friend.

Our deepest love and condolences to the Lynse Family with the passing of Gary.
No one stood taller, straighter and prouder of his family and his laugh would stop anyone in their tracks. R.I.P. soldier.

Christi and family, Our deepest sympathies, you will be in our thoughts and prayers. Gary was a kind, compassionate, gentleman who made our world a brighter, better place. He will be deeply missed and always remembered with the fondest of memories. One of our favorites is watching him hold the love of his life as they glided across the dance floor while looking into each other's eyes with such admiration and love. He loved and took great pride in his family,(wife, children, and grandchildren). Our love to each of you. The Pegans

My deepest sympathies to the family for their loss. I will always fondly recall Gary's visits to my office and phone calls to check on the County's Veterans' Relief Fund. Gary worked tirelessly for our veterans that needed a respectful hand up and helped them get connected to services to which they needed, deserved and are entitled. I'm certain his work saved local veteran lives. You fought the good fight, Gary. Peace be with you.
