Janet Kelstrup Obituary

Janet Lee Kelstrup

December 14, 1933 - August 7, 2024

Ferndale, Washington - Janet Lee Kelstrup (Barrett) age 90 passed away on August 7, 2024. Janet was also known to many as Dauby, a nickname started by her first grandchild that turned out to be a name she was called as much as she was called Jan.

Born in Bellingham, WA on December 14, 1933 to Cecily and Wilbur Barrett. She was preceded in death by her husband Sigurd Kelstrup. Survived by her four children: Kirk Kelstrup, Susan Philpott (Ed), Nancy Vander Linden (Wayne), and Tony Kelstrup (Shanda).

Grandchildren: Tyler (Jessica), Kyle (Melissa), Eric (Nancy) Vander Linden. Jennifer (Jovon) Miller, Katy (Kurt) Hartmaier, Michael (Rachel) Philpott. Joseph (Georgia) Kelstrup, Austin Kelstrup, Kaylee Lyons. She has thirteen great-grandchildren with number 14 on the way.

Janet was a lifetime Whatcom County resident except for several years while Sig was in the military. She was active in Avon for many years and was very successful and won numerous awards for her sales abilities. She also was a berry boss and loved interacting with the young people at Moore's Berry Farm. She was very social and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and of course the casino. As an only child, she was eager to host family gatherings with nieces, nephews, cousins, and all who could come sometimes for extended periods in the summer. Her spaghetti dinners were legendary! No matter how small her house was there was always room for one more. She left the world with a grateful heart and was very firm in her faith.

Thank you to her hospice nurse Stacy, bath aide Lauren, and chaplain Jennifer for their extra care and genuine compassion the last 18 months. Janet leaves a hole in many lives and will be fondly remembered with laughter and joy.

She will have a private graveside service for her family.

I met Janet, also selling Avon back in the early 70's, when I started selling Avon for the next 34 years, She was always very helpful, friendly, and personable to all of us who worked with her. So sorry to hear of her passing. My deepest sympathy to all of her family. May she rest in peace.

My deepest condolences to the Kelstrup Family. Janet was truly loved by many, and she and my mom shared a genuine, lifelong friendship and that relationship spanned so many years. Your mother was a kind, funny, and caring person. She will be greatly missed.

What a beautiful soul, sorry for the loss to the family. Many years with Avon back in the 80's-90's I think.

Janet was a jolly soul. Always smiling and cracking jokes. Fiercely independent and I was honored that she allowed the intimacy it took to care for her. I miss her already
