James E. Markland
1927-2010 ADAMS Mr. James Edward Markland, 82, of 3 Overlook Terrace in Adams, died Monday, April 26, 2010, at his residence.
Born in North Adams, on Aug. 12, 1927, son of the late Joseph and Mary Hart Markland, he attended the North Adams schools and was a graduate of the former St. Joseph's High School, where he played Varsity basketball.
A veteran of WWII with the Navy from Sept. 28, 1944-July 12, 1946. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the American Area Campaign Medal.
Returning to civilian life, he was an employee of Sprague Electric, Wall Street Shoes and Berkshire Fine Spinning, finalizing his employ with Pittsfield GE's Naval Ordnance Section. He retired in 1990. He also operated a garage station on State Road in North Adams.
He was a member of GE Pensioners and Pope John Paul Parish.
He was predeceased by his wife, Joan Marie Guettler Markland, who passed on in 2003.
He leaves four sons, Brent A. of Adams, Thomas J. of North Adams, Joel E. of Savoy, and James E. Jr. of Seabrook, N.H.; and a sister, Marie Maroni of North Adams, and 10 grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of celebration of Jim's life will be offered Thursday morning in Pope John Paul the Great's Chapel at 10 a.m. A visitation period will be Wed. from 4 to 7 p.m. at McBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Liberty St., Adams. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams.

With deepest sympathy. Jimmy was a friend of my Dad from High School. They also went in the Navy together. I remember he and Joan coming to visit us when we moved to Pittsfield when I was young.
