Maria Mrozinski Obituary

To celebrate the life of Maria Mrozinski is to celebrate her love of family, cooking delicious Polish food, and always offering kindness, warmth and a full-hearted smile. Maria was born in Tulig?owy Poland on February 2, 1925 and she passed on February 4, 2021 in Dalton Massachusetts, just days after toasting her 96th birthday. In Poland, Maria's family included her father Andrzej Szpak, mother Katherine, and her 5 older siblings Jenny, Stefania, Kasper, Ludvig, and Stanley. A survivor of WWII in Poland and Germany, Maria emigrated from Hamburg Germany to Lanesboro Massachusetts in the winter of 1949 with her late husband Stanislaw Mrozinski and 3-year old daughter Halina.

Maria's time in Massachusetts was marked by quickly teaching herself English, building a beautiful home on Wilson Street in Pittsfield MA, and caring for her growing family here in the United States. She spent time as a respected employee at Greylock Plastics and Marland Mold. After her early retirement Maria enjoyed gardening, listening to Polkas on Sundays, and making the aforementioned Polish food beloved by her family. She made babka and chrusciki that could sell at any bakery. Never one to fuss about her age, she did prefer to be called "Babcia" versus "grandmother," but ultimately became known as Bopshe, a name that truly meant love to all those who knew her.

Bopshe remained active through her early 90s, enjoying as many local adventures as possible. If you could get her there, she would go. She made multiple trips to Louisiana including a family celebration at Mardi Gras, and also hit the town in Miami along-with a few nice boat rides on the sunny isles of Florida with her grandchildren. As a survivor of war Maria was one tough cookie. But despite her struggles in life she is always spoken of with affection and adoration, because she truly was - one of a kind.

Maria is survived by her five children, Halina Peck, Kristine Alfonso, Richard Mrozinski, Stanley Mrozinski and Susan Sacco. She also leaves behind her two grandchildren Jennifer Nicholson, Stacey Peck, and two great-grandchildren Jack & Neela Nicholson.

To Maria's family, Yes, what a wonderful cook, and not just of traditional Polish dishes - don't forget her wonderful cheesecake! I'm sure she brought a smile to everyone's face that knew her. May those wonderful memories help you through this difficult time.

Maria, or as I came to call her, Mom Mrozinski, was indeed a gracious lady and a wonderful cook. I was invited to her home like one of her own children. We picked blueberries together, and she made the most delicious blueberry pierogis. I want to thank my niece Stacey for the wonderful tribute to her Bopshe. RIP Mom Mrozinski, Sue Barnes

Halina and family. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Your Mom was one tough lady! She lived through some hard times. She is in Heaven cranking out all of that Polish food...some of my relatives are probably there at her table too!
