I grew up in Pittsfield, MA. My dad and I loved boating on Onota Lake where our family summered at our cottage there. One summer weekend in the early 50s, we drove to New York City to watch the finish of the annual outboard motor-powered speedboat race down the Hudson River. I remember Bob and Curly and Bill had an entry in that race that year and Bob drove their boat. Just before the finish line, within sight of the GW Bridge, Bob was forced out of the race after their boat hit a log floating in the river that sheared a pin in their outboard motor, inactivating the propeller. It was a heart-wrenching moment after Bob had driven that boat almost 100 miles down the Hudson River that day. I remember we drove Bob and Bill back to Pittsfield that evening. Even though they hadn't been able to finish the race, he and Billy were philisophical about it and managed to find humor and something positive in the experience, anyway. He had a great attitude. I still remember him and that event fondly after all these years. At this time, I send my heartfelt sympathy to his family and good friends for their loss. Sincerely, Susan Strong Martin

Dear Kathy and Family,
I was sorry to read of your father's death in today's paper. I remember being at your parents' wedding many years ago. My mother and father kept in touch with your father and mother, and, over the years, they would share with me things about your parents. Please accept my condolences.
