Stanley Stankiewicz Obituary

Stanley James Stankiewicz, 92, of Crystal River FL, formerly of Pittsfield, died on September 25 after a brief illness.

A life-long Catholic, he was a member of Saint Benedict and formerly, Saint Francis in Pittsfield.

Stanley was born on June 25, 1929 in Pittsfield to Mary Orchel and Anthony Stankiewicz. Married to Clara (Beraldi) for 59 years, she pre-deceased him in 2012. He was also pre-deceased by brothers Joseph, Charles, Walter and sister Viola (Pepperman). Stan is survived by sister Josephine Butler of Madison, WI and sisters-in-law Phyllis Stankiewicz, Flora Rhinehart and many nieces and nephews. Stanley leaves his sons James (Lisa) of Dalton, John (Maria) of Longmeadow and daughters, June Decker (Bob) of Griswold, CT and Joann Murphy (John) of Boston, sixteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. He also leaves his friend and companion Rosalie Suda of Crystal River.

Stanley was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, serving in Okinawa from 1947-50. He was employed by the City of Pittsfield as a police officer, graduating from Patrolman to Chief of Police. He was a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia and the University of Southern Vermont. After retirement in 1986, Stan and Clara moved to Florida and enjoyed well-earned years of travel, leisure and boating/fishing on the Gulf of Mexico.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date at Saint Agnes, Dalton. A Christian burial with full military honors will take place on October 15th, 2021 at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA, celebrated by Father Christopher Malatesta, Pastor of Saint Agnes. The family request memorial gift to Camp Holy Cross, Goshen through Saint Agnes, 489 Main St., 01226.
