Carl Haugeberg Obituary
MINOT -- Carl T. Haugeberg, Minot and Max, died June 3, 2002, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Max. Burial will be in St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery, Max.
Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. today at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Carl was born Jan. 8, 1935, in Minot to Arthur and Mabel (Nicolaison) Haugeberg. He was raised and educated in Gassman Township, Ward County, where he attended eight years of country school. He graduated with honors from Minot High School in 1953. Carl was a state FFA officer.
Carl married Marlys Schmidt on July 3, 1955, and later in life divorced. He began farming southeast of Max in 1955 and farmed there until 1992. In later years, Carl worked as an advisory specialist in natural resources and agriculture development with former North Dakota Governor George Sinner. He was a real estate agent for Watne Realty of Minot, managed the Minot Eagles Club and recently worked in gaming.
Throughout his adult life, Carl was civically active. He was District 8 Democratic Chairman for more than 20 years, 4-H leader and very involved with various civic organizations in Max. During his farming years, he was an active member with the North Dakota Grain Growers and National Association of Wheat Growers. Carl was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Max, and the Eagles Aerie, Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge, all of Minot.
In all his years of involvement in many organizations, Carl took many leadership roles and made it his quest to see that there were accomplishments.
Carl is survived by his sons, Brad and his wife Corie, Minot, Jarvis and his wife Darci, Huron, S.D., and Ross and his fiancée Jan, Lisbon; six grandchildren, Misty Fyllesvold and her husband Roger, Stephanie and Travis Haugeberg, Amanda and Adam Haugeberg and Hilary Haugeberg; his former wife, Marlys Opheim, Bismarck; his brothers, Arvid Haugeberg and his wife Ruth, Billings, Mont., and Arnold Haugeberg and his wife Shirley, Belton, Texas; his uncles, Donald Haugeberg and his wife Jeanne, Max, and Tyler Haugeberg and Walter Nicolaison and his wife Martha, all of Minot; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
