G.D. Shaw Obituary

G. D. "Jerry" Shaw, 73, died Oct. 10, 2002, at a local hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Eastgate Funeral Service Chapel, Bismarck. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, with military rites by VFW Post 1326.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until time of services Saturday at Eastgate Funeral Service.

Jerry was born Aug. 21, 1929, in Mandan, the son of John and Christine (Classen) Shaw. He was raised in Mandan and graduated from Mandan High School. He graduated from Bismarck Junior College and from Dickinson State College with a bachelor of science degree. He then received his master's degree in psychiatric social work and his doctorate in humanities from the University of Denver. Jerry was a master sergeant in the U.S. Army National Guard Artillery during the Korean War.

He married Shirley Gallagher on Nov. 27, 1954, in Bismarck. He began working in the Department of Human Services in 1957 and retired as the director of Aging Services.

Jerry was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, Bismarck; his son, Greg, Bismarck; his daughter, Sandra and her husband Randall Farrell, Mandan; his grandchildren, Jesse, Tessa and Taylor Shaw, all of Bismarck, and Michael and Nicole Farrell, Mandan; and his brother-in-law, Vernon Gallagher, Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Walter Shaw.
