LaVerne Warren Obituary
JAMESTOWN -- LaVerne A. Warren, 72, Jamestown, died peacefully Sept. 19, 2002, at her daughter's home, surrounded by her family, after a courageous three-month battle with cancer. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. Dick Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
LaVerne Schaible was born Feb. 14, 1930, at Jamestown, the daughter of Gottlieb and Odelia "Tillie" (Stoecker) Schaible. She grew up and attended school at Gackle. The family later moved to Jamestown, where she continued her education, graduating from Jamestown High School in 1948. She worked for the Jamestown Cafe for several years.
She married Harold C. "Bud" Warren on July 31, 1950, in Jamestown, where they made their home. In 1965 the family moved to West Fargo. In 1980 she worked for the United States Census Bureau and in 1982 she ran for mayor of West Fargo. They returned to Jamestown in 1988. Her husband passed away Oct. 14, 1989.
LaVerne was the caregiver of people, volunteering at the Senior Citizens Center and the Gardenette Senior Center.
She enjoyed spending time with family and friends at Lake Elsie, near Hankinson. She loved her grandchildren, and always welcomed guests with delicious home-cooked meals. LaVerne always tried to maintained contact with a wide circle of friends.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Jamestown, the Troll Dancers (Norwegian Folkdancers) and the Jamestown Eagles Auxiliary.
LaVerne is survived by five children, Gregory (Brenda) Warren, West Fargo, Budd Warren, Fargo, Wade (Michelle) Warren, Bismarck, Marsha (Randy) Swensen, Harwood, and Gretchen (Dan) Ehlen, Horace; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter; two sisters; and one brother.
